Germaine Greer calls for rethink of rape
Jun 25th, 2018 at 2:43pm

Germaine Greer calls for rethink of 'the whole issue' of rape

ABC Story

Quote:
Germaine Greer has taken aim at the "general fog of craziness about the whole rape issue", saying sentences are "excessive" and non-consensual sex is "practically universal in every long-standing relationship".

I have two children conceived by non-consensual sex.  I was asleep until it was too late to stop.

Greer's attitude on this subject is appalling.  She also opined recently that 'Most rape is just bad sex.'

Maybe she overgeneralised.  Why else do you find such an iconic woman's attitude appalling other than that, or is that it?

Dementia has obviously set in. She should have had those comments censored.

On the other hand - I've noticed that self proclaimed feminists can be quite hypocritical when it suits them. Greer has always seemed like a fake.

She gives every indication of having no idea what it means to the victim to be raped, obviously, so she seeks to talk it down as just.....mere bagatelle/humdrum and part of a normal relationship.

It ain't.

I think Germaine's thing is to make sure that regretful sex is not classified as rape, as the more extreme femos are pushing for.

Which comments should she have had censored, and how would one go about censoring their own honest opinion?  I reckon there is some reason to her comments, whether she's right or wrong.  Have you ever been in a 'long-standing' relationship?

Do you consider that you were raped?

Only now that the articles I read on the ABC tell me I was.  If she'd taken the pill and not got pregnant, I would never have been so psychologically damaged, I suppose.

Germaine Greer would not appear to consider me a victim of rape like the ABC does lately.

At the times it occurred, when it occurred, did you consider it rape?

Was it only becasuse it resulted in pregnancy that you were later upset?

What do you think would have happened if I'd called the police about it?  Would she have been arrested and forced to have abortions?

Anyway, I think we have discussed my personal life enough now, to get back to the ABC article and opine on Ms Greer's latest attitude.  You still have a question to answer about what you think is appalling.

Greer contradicted her whole philosophy and that was offensive. Maybe it was her age which made her less articulate or maybe she just didn't give a stuff anymore.

As far as my situation goes - yes I've had a few long term relationships. Conceiving was always consensual and I was fully awake each time.

If you were "raped" while you were asleep by a long term partner - then perhaps it was a common occurrence and you either hadn't protested or left him which means he thought it was OK to do this, or you were a victim of domestic violence and took it as your lot in life.

As far as my situation goes - yes I've had a few long term relationships. Conceiving was always consensual and I was fully awake each time.

If you were "raped" twice while you were asleep by a long term partner - then perhaps it was a common occurrence and you either hadn't left him which means he thought it was OK to do this, or you were a victim of domestic violence and took it as your lot in life.

How do you think that she contradicted her own philosophy and what do you find offensive?

Please don't speculate any further on personal matters, eh?  I have already explained why I see some sense in Ms Greer's opinion using a personal example.

I answered. Why wouldn't anyone speculate on your comments? Hopefully you haven't told your children how you conceived them.

You raised your personal experience, so it is now out there.  Frankly, I doubt what you say other than intercourse occurred without your awake consent, but it seems from your prevarication, your only actual concern was the resulting pregnancies.

What Greer said was appalling and showed little to no insight on how genuine rape impacts on a victim.

Do you agree?
