These reverse osmosis plants all seam to be white elephants, Gold Coast has one too I think, desperate politicians do silly things sometimes, that money could of been spent fixing river systems that r so damaged or even dams. Everyone in Melbourne could have a rain water tank.... so many options.

Now if only they would stop sucking all the water from the Murray River. That would fix the majority of issues right there. Irrigation has a lot to answer for.

Because we are governed by hysterical cretins who so desperately want to believe in global warming as an immediate threat controlled by Australia, p1ssing away billions is not big deal.

Classic Aussie thinking on infrastructure in this thread.

Build something that future-proofs the nation, get bagged out because at the moment its not needed.

Don't build something that future-proofs the nation, get bagged out when its needed.

They will 'fall into the  swamp' long before they will ever be needed. Kiss that money good bye and hope we didn't need it for something like hospitals, education and health. ohh wait we do.

The one in Sydney was built during the reign of the Labor Govt when Eddie Obeid was basically in charge. What's a bet he got a drink (no pun intended) off the construction.

Not really, just pointing out other wastes of money we could use for hospitals, education and health.

I think if we continue with the big population ideas of
all the politicians - where we'll have 50 million people by 2050
then eventually we'll need extra water - droughts or not.

Also - Australia is a land of droughts and flooding rains.
We will have a long drought sooner or later.
The desal plants will get used one day.
It's just a pity that they cost so much even when left sitting idle.

What annoys me is that a North South pipe line was never built
in all our history.
Trillions of litres of water falls on the Northern territory every rainy season and
simply washes out to sea.
If we only we could harvest that water & send it south via a gigantic
pipeline pumped by solar powered pumps then we'd have more than enough water
for all the cities & even the farmers.
We'd have more water than we'd know what to do with.

The politicians like immigrants to come here and to be used as bank fodder so they can feed their fake services economy with borrowed money. It saves the government having to borrow the money. Instead just tax idiot migrants
who borrow money !!

yes because we end up borrowing a truck load of money to buy a whole lot of expensive equipment from the US only to to use it when the US drags us into their hare brained wars in the middle east Sad
