So could we have solar aircraft used for communications?

Once they are up there soaking up sun above the clouds.

Having enough charge to last overnight,,, oh.

After the 8 world records set by the Solar Impulse prototype, when it became the first solar airplane ever to fly through the night, between two continents, and across the United States, Bertrand Piccard and André Borschberg accomplished the ultimate phase of the adventure: the 2015-2016 First Round-The-World Solar Flight.

Nope.

A solar plane with battery storage; what would need to happen?

A larger solar collector, more wingspan. Many more heavy batteries. So much more weight and so very little (if any) increase in load.

Of course feel free to correct me.

It’s still very new tech, 100 kms a hour now, won’t be long till some real speed happens, better batteries, better solar panels, better planes, even now it’s faster than car and set up for overnight flight. I can see lots of grey nomads loving the idea of going town to town, explore where they want and no fuel costs.

"The 2.3 tonne Solar Impulse plane is powered by 17,248 solar cells and 4 lithium ion batteries connected to the electric motors that drive the propellors."

Propeller driven aircraft are seriously limited for speed, so every flight will be a slow flight, and it will never get any better than that

Luckily the US Air-force and US Navy are working on synthetic jet fuel that will send this flying joke to the rubbish bin.

Umm the plane has batteries and flys all night, it’s already happened, I’m not sure what your saying.
