I remember being in the backstreets of some village down near the Indian border south of Bhaktapur in Nepal - off the tourist tracks.
Saw many a malnourished beggar along dirt roads in the middle of nowhere as if banished from any establishment.
Five times I saw a dead body, most pushed to the side and down into a gully from the roads. Left to rot. The Indian-Nepalese I was with didn't pay such things any attention as if to admit these people's existence was to be infected with their way of life and become like them. The irony of being such, sitting under a Lotus Tree and attaining enlightenment  ( the fall from grace into poverty and destitution) was nothing more than being someone who had it all and threw it all away for want of knowing, that they could return to that world of wealth once again. A bit of a corruption compared to someone who has never experienced such in a Palace like Buddha did when young.

Do you mean 'veteranarian'? I say this because there is no specific training for what Apu does with animals.
