I remember back in 70.
I had to share a Tent with Karnal.
His group had just come in from a dust-off north of Nui-Dat.
He looked tired, slightly shakey.
Me:
"Caught some action in the hills?"
Karnal
"Yeah - there was some Big Ol' viet-cong known as the 'King Kong' battalion."
Me:
"I hear ya - we poked some lead in that direction two days ago. Near thought we shot so much lead up their clacker they bent over backwards to try and get a reach around."
Karnal
: "You know what. I just wish I was back home in Cabramatta where all the nice white folk are."
That was the only time I saw Karnal over there in Vietnam.
News of Big Ol's 'mutiny' to the other side up the river would eventually steer my life along another path.
...oh the horror.
