[quote author=Jovial_Abbott link=1518090670/243#243 date=1525318127]Electric cars are ramping up in production and sales. Cost of ownership over the life of the vehicle is cheaper for the EV.

In twenty years time EVs will be the norm.

actually, they are NOT cheaper. At the moment this is only true for very high mileage vehicles which is why taxis use the Prius. But you dont see taxis being EV because they want to be on the road 24 hrs/day and not 8 hours a day on recharge.

Except the London black cab that r going electric ohh and the Netherlands that r going to Tesla and emerits as well
I see in QLD the average cab does 160000 kms a year , so 500 kms a day. Tesla’s do 600 kms in a charge , a lunch hour would charge the taxi each day, Netherlands have chargers at the airport to charge between fares.
I know 8 hours sounds better but 1 hour is closer. Let’s be generous 2 hours a day.
Still for your own argument in Australia probably not the best value for money.
Tesla S an X against the cars they r competing against seam to be cheeper over the life of the vehical , and r the only ones in aus that r selling.
Maybe look at the other thread about the limo service in Sydney  that’s is doing well, they r taxis.

You never seem to understand the physics of recharging. No one can teach you even how it work in theory nevermind how it works in actual real life. London cabs are going electric BY DECREE, not because it is more economical, something you seem unaware of.

limo services dont run 24 hrs a day, moron.

But how about this... Go buy an EV then come back and tell it how it works out for you in real life. You wont of course. You zealots NEVER do.

Ohh moron again..... dam u must feel threatened....

ok a tesla S has 100kwh battery it does 600km's with that battery
A super charger is 120kw, that is 20kw every 10 min or 120kms, so 50 mins for 480km's but I remember saying  give it 2 hours, please instead of saying I'm a zealot try showing me where I am wrong.........
Also in case u didn't notice I said that in Australia a EV wouldn't make a good taxi, but hay don't let that stop you....
And please show me how it would take 8 hours to charge a Tesla 500km's, with a supercharger either public or the business one Tesla will install? The physic's and real life as u

You've already been show and PROVEN that tesla does not allow a car to be supercharged very often before

When a taxi company wants to put in 10 superchargers in their office then fine although how they get a 1MEGAWATT connection might be interesting.

You dont really drive much, do you. You tow a

Ohhh u mean the one customer that had constantly recharged on super charger and after a few hundred times the slowed it down so
Did u read the artical u put up ? It also said that happened less than 1% of the time and if it was charged in a home charger once and awhile it never gets
Ohh u mean the super chargers between Adelaide and brisbane?
Still haven’t answer how the battery takes 8 hours to charge, a lot of hot air but not much lift.
But u where able to call me a Moron again, if it’s name calling well ur doing well.
Well the last post it shows all the chargers around Australia, I guess u didn’t  look at that.
Zealot, someone who even after proof still hangs on to the same story......

it didnt slow it down ONE percent. did you even read the article? And it remains the fact that having a handful of superchargers scattered around the country is no comparison to the 25000 petrol stations dotted... EVERYWHERE.

as for homechargers... what power do you think you can get from home? IF you have threephase you might be able to get 25kwhrs which means a full charge takes.... four hours. If you only have a 7kw charger you are talking 14 hours.

Dont you yet understand that the problem with EVs is not about where superchargers ARE, but rather, where they ARENT.

Ohh dear if u reread both what I said and what the artical says, is that less than 1% of customers would be effected and it would add 5 mins to charge time. At least now that is out of the road.
Well with home chargers the owners plug them in at night go to sleep 12 hours later leave again ,magic the cars r recharged. Do u need me to explain that better or slower I can.
Well if only 2000 ev.s where sold in Australia last year it stands to reason that there aren’t many chargers around yet, ever heard of supply and demand, do u think more chargers won’t start popping up if Evs start selling here?.
Unlike petrol cars every ev can be charged overnight at home...... it’s a huge draw card for Evs , no one I would imagine would want to stop somewhere when they can plug in at home.
More cars more chargers, I’m sure when the model T was released there weren’t 25000 gas stations, but unlike petrol everyone has power at home.
Yes I get it not many public chargers, but not many ev either.
Yes it’s a chicken or the egg thing atm

You think that 2% sales are good?

I will bet that in a years time you sill still be saying the same things and still not bought an EV

From 1000 sales to 2000000 sales a year over 10 years, I’d say that’s a fair increase.

haha and utterly invalid comparison.

Horses were replaced by something vastly superior on all counts so obviously people replaced horses

EVs are trying to replace something that is cheaper, more flexible and with less limitations so obviously people are NOT replacing petrol with electric cars.

Once again, I am not ideologically opposed to EVs. I am at my core, a pragmatist who objects to being told things that are objectively false like 'EVs are better than petrol cars'

Except the 1 in 50 cars being sold worldwide that is.
I think the thread says electric cars r here to stay.
Where does it say Evs r better ?
Although I’d rather be in a ev to a ice in a closed garage while they r running.
If u think paying the Middle East for oil is great then good luck to you.

you think you are the first to make your zealot claims? Lastnail has been saying the same things for over 10 year now and often claiming he will now get X EV car and of course, never does. Just like you.

I see you believe that adage of 98% of statistics are made up.

https://www.best-selling-cars.com/international/2018-january-to-march-internatio...

In that they give the list.
If I add up car sales it comes to - 6,829,300

"Global Plug-In Electric Car Sales Hit 140,000 In March, Tesla #1"

https://insideevs.com/global-plug-in-electric-car-sales-increased-to-over-140000...

Now if I divide that out it becomes about 1 in 49. 48.78 to be pedantic.

Ohh Damm BigOL Lee worked out that amount, and he is correct, maybe try checking things before the bluster

OK VW announces its put 45 billion dollars toward batteries and expects to be selling 3 million EV's a year in 7 years.

https://cleantechnica.com/2018/05/04/volkswagen-doubles-ev-battery-order-to-48-b...

I don't see any car companies saying ICE cars r better we wont be doing any electric vehicles, every press release by every car manufacturer is about their electric plans.......

Their 'electric' plans are largely because of government pressure or have you not worked that out yet??

You are talking about VW. There are in fact - in case you are unaware - other car manufacturers around.

What I want is a Jaguar XJR Hybrid - which may in fact appear. Best of both worlds and performance to destroy most cars.

yes a vw r the biggest car group in the world, there r other manufacturers but no one is bigger.
Haha Jag is just a glorified TATA now. Their new electric might actually be able to compete with a Tesla X though, they need something to get better sales in USA.
Range Rovers r supposed to be going hybrid too.
U could get a Tata/jag xenon Ute cheep here.
