I was reading this a few days ago and it is a shocking thing.

Regardless of severe drought though, which it said is to be expected every 300 years, unreported agricultural use, invasive species sucking out water in catchments, poor planning and mismanagement and not having the foresight to develop new water sources   …    one of the biggest problems seems to be the population explosion.

A population growth of 79% between 1995 to 2018 from 2.4 million to 4.3 million whilst there was an increase in dam storage of only 15% over the same period.

Foresight is clearly not their strong point.

yes, which made me recall the big drought we had in brisso about 4 years ago.

If it happened once, it'll happen again.

Yes - it's over population.

I read somewhere that Africa has 1.5 billion people and
it will be 2.5 billion before 2050.

That's an extra billion people who'll need water.

Johannesburg  would be the draw card though lets face it...and many blacks from all over would wend their way there.... since whitey left   the big city might look as if it has streets of gold.. compared to where they come from..

imagines what the hospital health situation is......

is anyone telling them to hurry up   theres no time to lose???

I live in Dubai, 100% water desalination... amazing.

There is water a plenty.

Water to drink (it is safe but I don't), green everywhere, watered, pools, water fountains and now they are watering the desert to plant trees and there are lakes now. The lakes are not very deep.

Water is our most valuable comodity, if we have a power source, there is no reason to be without water. Well expept for the cost.

Also, I know of companies that are investing heavily in Water as they see it as the new gold in the next 50 years. People will pay alot for water in the future.

As to Cape Town, this is just typical lack of planning and yes, if the whites were runnign the place, they probably would have planned and improved the water infrastructure and supply by now. It will take RSA another 50 years to get their act together. A full generation or 2 or 3 need to pass before they do.

Water... the new gold mine.

Dubai can turn oil into water.  They have plenty of it.

Sth Africa has uranium but as if we could trust them to run a nuclear power plant.

Yes, you need energy and lots of it.

I wouldn't trust RSA with anything nuclear. the corruption is so bad it would be on the open market the next day. BitCoin would risen again as they buried the transactions from view.

Water will become more and more important as the climate changes.
It won't matter if we have global warming or cooling -
there will still be water shortages all over the planet.

We have the same situation in regional Qld. It rained tonight, and we do have a reliance upon the Fitzroy River for our water. However, in recent weeks, we have had to deal with a light-brown discolouration of the water. And there have been reports of added chlorine or whatever chemicals to treat the discolouration of our water. Glad that I have been double filtering my drinking water.

But, there is still the issue of not enough rain for this summer. Unless February is going to present us with a heavy storm season, and a cyclone moving inland, we could well be in for a very dry season. The Bureau of Meteorology has told of a delayed start to the monsoonal season (though Darwin is copping that monsoon). I am quite ready for a cyclone to hover off the coast for a few days and bring some much-needed rain to the region.

Western and rural Qld is running dry. It is unfeasible to pump water to the interior of the state to allow rural Qlders to have running water. That is why they rely on rainwater. If those areas cannot get enough rain this year, we could all be in for devastating effects, the likes we have not seen since 15 years ago.

Stuff Cape Town. We need to focus on our own water supply.
