in 2009 during operation cast iron in Gaza, Nawaz made a public call for Israeli leaders to be prosecuted for war crimes. That was the last time he criticised Israel. It was also the year in which government funding dried up, and the previously mentioned US conservative (pro-Israel, naturally) lobbies stepped in to save the foundation. Since then Nawaz has never made any more calls against Israeli war crimes, nor any criticisms of Israeli policy. Is that a coincidence? I suppose its possible, but my common sense barometer is heavilly indicating it isn't. But of course you are free to insist it is. [/quote]
Typical Gandalf lying. Government funding for Quilliam ended in 2011 and the $1 mill from Templeton didn’t start until 2014. Perhaps your common sense barometer should instead consider that just like Nawaz changed his views re: Islam, so did he re: israels right to exist? Not to mention that one can be both critical and supportive, depending on the issue. I too was critical of Israel in 2009 during the operation. But I too support Israel’s right to exist. Fancy that, one can have an opinion on the basis of an issue, rather than an ideology. Wow.
In any case, I fail to see how any of this actually invalidates Maajid’s position on Islam? Are you suggesting one can’t be taken with authority on Islam if one supports a two state solution to Israel/Palestine conflict? Or are you suggesting Nawaz decided to stop supporting terrorism because John Templeton started funding Quilliam? Or are you just unsure of what to argue anymore because you can’t refute what Maajid actually says so instead you’re going to spend your time trying to draw up irrelevant links in an attempt to discredit him? Please, tell us, what is it *exactly* that Maajid says that is wrong?
Are you just upset that Maajids interpretations of Islam, unlike yours, don’t suggest a man is superior to a woman? Or are you upset that he advocates for the end of states on the basis of Islamic laws, and instead having Islam be like any other religion, where you, gandalf, can believe a man is superior to a woman, based on your understanding of the scripture, but that becomes irrelevant to what the laws of the land are.
