Greeny renewable rubbish sending Australia broke
Jan 24th, 2018 at 6:45am

In their bid to collapse the Australian economy the evil Extremist Activist Greenies are destroying Australia's natural advantage of cheap Primary coal and hydro Power with their Secondary Renewable rubbish "power".

And must be correct as is from the ABC Socialist Propaganda Station.

Power prices: Businesses urged to negotiate contracts before expiry to gain the upper hand
ABC Ballarat By Patrick Laverick Posted Sun at 7:17pm

Businesses large and small are being told to brace for steep increases in their energy contracts this year and are urged to start shopping around before their contracts expire.

One such small business currently renewing its power contract, Ballarat's Miners Tavern, had its electricity provider originally offering a new contract at 20 cents per kilowatt — more than double last year's cost.

Bar owner Simon Whiting said he negotiated the price down to 16 cents, but it was still a sharp increase.

"In dollar terms I reckon it'll be somewhere in-between $70-80,000 a year more for power, this 12 months, than it was the previous year," he said.

"I got an email to say my contract was coming up and they just had the generic price list in there.

"I opened it and nearly fell off the chair. I said 'that can't be right'."

Large businesses are bracing for the hit too, with industrial supplies company JB Cameron expecting prices to rise when its contract expires this year.

"We were fortunate a year ago when we renegotiated our energy, and we've managed to reduce it, but we're waiting for the hit now because it's this year that it's going to hit," said CEO Steve Griffin.

He predicts a sharp rise in costs, despite a smaller percentage increase.

"Power appears to be going up between 10-15 per cent this year, that's a significant increase on a fairly large cost that the business already has."

Government help with contract negotiation
Commerce Ballarat CEO Jodie Gillett is urging businesses owners to understand when their contracts expire to avoid bill shock.

"I think the amount of increase is probably taking some businesses by surprise," she said.

"Whilst you may be in contract at the moment with your provider, be aware that once that contract ends there's likely to be fairly substantial increases and maybe it's time to be looking around."

Even with preparation, Ms Gillett acknowledged a price increase like Mr Whiting's will hit hard.

"As we know, that's not something that they can suddenly find, they can't put their prices up that much, they can't recoup that loss, it has to be absorbed. It's going to be difficult," she said.

The Victorian Government offers grants through Sustainability Victoria to businesses to assess their energy usage, as well as running workshops for business owners looking to reduce their consumption.

Its strategic coordinator, Ross Irving, said in some cases businesses can find significant savings on their power bills, but really they should look at reducing their usage.

"Lots of people are looking potentially at solar panels, which has certainly got merit, but I always tend to think the cheapest energy is that which you don't use at all," he said.

...
Gold-plated grid is unaffordable

Australia has a power system "10 times more reliable that it needs to be" — so why are consumers so unhappy? Gold plating.
"The idea is to look within the confines of the business to see how they can use less energy."

Small business owner Simon Whiting said LED lighting was already installed through his pub, but heavy equipment uses the most energy.

"Your stuff that uses the main power are the compressors that run your refrigeration, your beer dispensing equipment etcetera. You can't modernise, there is no other way," he said.

Mr Whiting said other options to save power were limited.

"We don't have a big enough roof space to go with solar so we're probably going to try and put timers on lights in the venue," he said.

"But once again, that's a bit hard. You can't expect to walk into a pub to have a beer and push a button to turn the lights on."

Hey socko if people are being paid 6 cents per kwh from their solar PV feedins and these energy retailers (scammers) are flogging it for 25 cents a kwh then who is benefiting from the difference and what actually does the consumer get for this 19 cents per kwh ??

I thought your privitization racket was supposed to reduce energy prices ?

There's not much investment growth in energy over the last few years. This bumbling government has no clear energy policy and as a consequence most of the investors fukked off years ago.

And they only required 5 billion of Government money? Or were they to be self-sufficient?

Diesel rebates aren't subsidies. Property flippers as you call them get none either.

How's direct action a subsidy. Coal and gas have certainly had a fair swag over the years though.

The old diesel rebates scheme again.  The one where the rebate was assessable income? That scheme? Grin Grin Grin Grin Grin

Clean coal initiatives? As far as I can see there has been none so far.

"The 2017 budget includes $265 million for studies and initiatives for gas pipelines, exploration, onshore development, Snowy Hydro expansion, competitive studies of the gas and electricity markets - all aimed at delivering a secure, reliable and competitive energy system.

But there isn't a cent for a feasibility study of the potential for "clean coal" power in Australia"

Property flippers and investors get lots of corporate welfare in the form of tax concessions and CGT discounts.
