Good to see the croc is still making it up as he goes and has plucked a graph out of the ether as well,

The Lefties seem to be having a competition to see who knows the least about electricity generation and reticulation.

The croc is just about winning as he just opens his mouth to change feet.

With the closure of the Primary Power Hazelwood station it was predicted Vic would run short of power generating capacity and the prediction has been proved correct.

croc's absurd suggestion that a brown out at a few places at the end of long supply lines was the cause is silly in the extreme.

It was the TOTAL load that exceeded the supply rated capacity that caused the fuse to trip to protect the supply from overload.

The voltage at the end of long runs would drop somewhat before the fuse tripped.

Oh gosh now the croc will be offended again.

Brown outs can have many causes the real issue with renewables is they can not provide baseload for industry which often runs 7x24.

If an overload occurs somewhere on the network to protect the grid it will trip the circuit and some point. Usually an overload occurs due to some other problem. One year in Sydney they had a fire at the Pyrmont Sub station which caused a massive overload. Nothing to do with demand planning the root cause of issues with renewables, they fail to plan for normal loads.

the never ever clean coal technologies and deisel rebates !

and what about the libbos infamous direct action plan ?

Diesel rebates aren't subsidies. Property flippers as you call them get none either.

How's direct action a subsidy. Coal and gas have certainly had a fair swag over the years though.

Property flippers and investors get lots of corporate welfare in the form of tax concessions and CGT discounts.

It's been explained to you numerous times. You really are a dense twat.

Bad luck Nails. You seem to think I actually care what you think. Any explanation given is for the entire board and not specifically for your edification. I don't know why you bother and care even less. Everything I've stated is completely verifiable by anybody who wishes to look it up. So far you have not been able to refute a single point except for your own personal opinion which counts for precisely zero. Anything added by me is for the benefit of the readers of this board and not for you.

With the closure of the Primary Power Hazelwood station it was predicted Vic would run short of power generating capacity and the prediction has been proved correct.

Funny how everything is running today with full industrial output and a supply interconnect to SA to boot. As usual you simply don't know and to top it off do not even know what you don't know.

croc's absurd suggestion that a brown out at a few places at the end of long supply lines was the cause is silly in the extreme.

I never said that all. As usual, you made it up.

It was the TOTAL load that exceeded the supply rated capacity that caused the fuse to trip to protect the supply from overload.

What's with "the fuse". Are you suggesting that the entire network is protected by a single fuse at the generation node. Fuse is a bit of a misnomer anyway. The network uses reclosers. The 500 and 330kV distribution finds it way to many substations. These in turn connect via a variety of specific voltages depending on the customers from 132kV down to 11kV and then on to the consumers low voltage circuits at 415V. Every single leg has a recloser on the poletop, roadside transformer or substation. It is when the current in that specific leg exceeds the capacity of the carrying wires does the recloser trip. This is the reason why you see blackouts at only specific locations rather than the entire network. Fukk all to do with the supplying alternator. The capacity of these alternators is closely monitored and load shedding takes place well before a 'fuse' could 'blow'

The voltage at the end of long runs would drop somewhat before the fuse tripped.

Horseshit. What do you think transformers are used for.

Oh gosh now the croc will be offended again.

No offence at all. It is painfully obvious that you know zip and use deflection strategies to hide the fact. Nobody is fooled by these antics and nobody takes any serious notice of you. Including me. It doesn't mean that the truth should not be told though.

That doesn't mean that new technologies should not be developed. Over the years we've lost much of our industrial base. We have a solid opportunity to develop technologies that the rest of the world wants. Crap on it as much as you want but don't whinge when another opportunity is lost to another nation while we descend further into the service economy madness.

RSF, it is such a refreshing surprise to hear from someone who actually understands electricity generation and reticulation and doesn't make it up as he goes along like the croc.

The actual situation is more complex than the muddled minds of the Lefties could ever comprehend.

There are 2 limits to supply, the actual generating capacity available and the dimensioning of the conductors and transformers from the generator to the sub station supplying the blackout area.

As private operators are involved there may be a restriction on energy supply due to contract arrangements.

There is usually a transformer at a sub station stepping down the 3 wire 3 phase high voltage to a 4 wire 3 phase 415v supply which radiates 4 wire 3 phase to the various parts of the area that it serves with each feed being separately fused to protect the transformer and to also limit damage to the conductors in the event of a short circuit.

There is a glaring inconsistency in the lies being peddled by the imposter Vic Labor "govt" which lies that the blackout was caused by the substation being too small to handle the load so that its old fuses tripped!!!!

Yet on the other hand there has been untold millions spent on "gold plating" the network!!!!!

There are various lies spread around about there being "spare" energy available somewhere on the network?????
Energy is ONLY available from the actual generators and from interstate feeds and "spare energy" does not float around.

Clearly there was INSUFFICIENT ENERGY available for the sub station servicing the blackout area otherwise it would have operated without incident.

There are a multitude of lies being peddled by the imposter Vic Labor "govt" which can't explain why the feed to the blackout area was not upgraded during the "gold plating " exercises.

Before the ratbag Greenies sabotaged the Vic power network it just never failed as there was ample spare network capacity around the network.

Since the big Hazelwood coal station closed the Vic power network is running on a knife edge with barely enough power to operate and just waiting to fall over again.

And when Vic does fall over it will take the SA shambles with it!!!!!

The Greeny sabotage of the Vic power network designed to force industry to close down is starting to bite as the Norske Skog paper mill is forced to stop production when there is NO POWER available due to the Hazelwood coal station closure!!!!!!

The Border business was among 14 industrial electricity users and producers who have signed contracts with the Australian Energy Market Operator to help avoid large-scale blackouts like those which hit South Australia last summer.

Norske Skog will shut down Ettamogah plant to help NSW and Victoria avoid summer blackouts during peak electricity demands
John ChanterJohn Chanter DECEMBER 29 2017 - 2:50PM

Albury’s Norske Skog paper mill will stop production during peak power demands to help avoid major summer blackouts.

...

The Border business was among 14 industrial electricity users and producers who have signed contracts with the Australian Energy Market Operator to help avoid large-scale blackouts like those which hit South Australia last summer.

Visy was also included but the company was unable to confirm if its Wodonga plants would be affected.

Under the agreement, Norske Skog would shut down its paper machine and recycled fibre plant for a set time, likely to be between an hour and several hours, during peak demand so its electricity could be used elsewhere across the network.

Norske Skog regional procurement manager Michael Machin said the contract helped provide operational security for the Ettamogah plant.

“We would much prefer to have a controlled shutdown than to have a breakage on the electrical network which could result in an uncontrolled shutdown,” Mr Machin told The Border Mail.

He said without the agreement the market operator could just shut parts of the network down without notice, with an unscheduled emergency shutdown having a much bigger negative impact on production.

“We understand that if there’s a thunderstorm or a lightning strike hits a powerline, or a bushfire effects it, we’re like everyone else in the local area, whether it be big business or a private consumer, we just have to wear it,” Mr Machin said.

“But where you can foresee some things, you need to be in the game to avoid those nasties if you can help it.

“That’s what we’re trying to avoid, given the events in Victoria and South Australia last summer.”

AEMO would pay Norske Skog for the shutdowns but it would result in a financial loss for the mill.

With a hot summer predicted to drive energy demand higher, the AEMO chief executive Audrey Zibelman was confident the power network could survive the 2017-18 summer despite the earlier than usual hot weather hitting south-eastern Australia in the past few weeks.

“I think we have done all the right things to get ready for this summer. I feel very good about the plan we have put in place,” she told Fairfax Media

Under the Reliability and Emergency Reserve Trade (RERT) process, large electricity users, retailers and generators are contracted by AEMO to either use less energy or generate power from their owner generators. Aggregators are also contracted to procure demand response from electricity users.

The trigger points could be when the price of electricity reaches a certain level or when supply issues become critical.

The amounts AEMO is paying the companies have not been disclosed, but the market operator says the total cost of the summer readiness program, which includes the RERT, is $68 million – which is roughly half what it would have cost to keep the Hazelwood coal-fired power station operating for only two to three days a year.

“There's lots of different ways to drive productivity and efficiency in the system but frankly the markets have not valued or allowed that participation to come in in an easy way,” Ms Zibelman said.

“One of the things we've learned in this industry is when you have someone who has a back-up resources – where they have loads they can shed where it's very flexible – that can be very fast and more certain than turning on a generator.”

During a heatwave in February in NSW, the Tomago aluminium smelter near Newcastle was asked to curtail its production by 30 per cent or 300 megawatts to avoid black-outs across the state.

It's already established that you are an ignorant fool. CGT discounts apply to all capital gains and for good reasons. NG can apply to any income producing asset. No tax is being avoided. The only change is the date in which it is paid.
