Israel, where are your Palestinians? There used to be how many Palestinians living in the Occupied Territories before Israel occupied them? Where are they now, I wonder? Who's armed forces went door-to-door, demanding that the inhabitants leave or face massacre? Who's armed forces massacred Palestinians?
Soren, there are points and counter-points, neither sides' hands are clean in this regard. Be they Israeli or Palestinian or Arab. Now, we can dwell excessively on the crimes of the past or instead we can consider the future of a two state solution. The Israelis won't talk to the Palestinians, despite the Palestinians dancing through hoops to satisfy their demands on recognition and existence of Israel as a separate state. Israel doesn't want to talk about the right of return for the millions of Palestinians that it has expelled over the last sixty years. The Palestinians won't talk about Jerusalem except as their capital alone. Neither side is willing to talk. Yet you only side with the Israelis. I wonder, do you know what the Ultra-Orthodox Jews think of Gentiles? Really?
Er... somebody declared war on Israel in 1948, just as it was declared. And then the same people started a few more wars.
Still Israel has 17.6% Muslim population. Muslims are in the Army, parliament, universities, police. Muslims are freer in Israel than in any of the surrounding Arab countries.
How many peace agreements have the Pallos walked away from? How many opportunities did they let pass just so they can continue to thrive for a
Judenrein Middle East, cleansed of Jews like all the other Arab countries? But they never walk away from a opportunity to go completely apesh!t and violent.
And Jerusalem IS the capital of Israel, that's where its parliament is, that's where its main government offices are.
Jerusalem is also the capital of Palestine, Soren.
Israel has a minority who are Muslim. Some are Palestinians in origin. Moshe Dayan back in the late 1960s wrote a very interesting article about the differences between the Israeli attitude towards the Palestinians and the US attitude towards the South Vietnamese. He felt the biggest failing of the Israelis was their failure to create a true multi-religious, multi-ethnic, multicultural state. They failed to conscript the Muslims within Israel to make them a part of Israeli society and instead chose to make Israel an exclusively Jewish state, where only Jews had the full rights and responsibilities of citizenship. This he felt set the Palestinians always against the Jews and the Jews always against the Palestinians. The US OTOH conscripted the South Vietnamese, they set up a proper Vietnamese state (well in name only, really) and they had the Vietnamese fighting for their own freedom.
There are bugger all Muslims serving in the Israeli Defence Forces, Soren. Only one group is conscripted. Today, the Jews are having problems even getting Jews to serve their conscription. Ultra-Orthodox Seminary Students are traditional saved from serving in the IDF. Today, the numbers of such students have sky-rocketed. There were riots the other week when Israeli police turned up to grab those they didn't consider genuine Seminary Students.
