"....As I said, I am not interested in any of that ['that' = = platitudes, or 'Jesus' or 'religious fervour'],
and its because I am continual confronted with visions of paradise."

- issue, in the OP

"......To me, the Big Question is: "Can humanity save itself from itself."
.....Can we save ourselves from ourselves? That's my Big Question."

- issue, in the OP

issue, the person on OzPol, who is,
1/ continually confronted with 'visions of paradise', but,
2/ is also obviously deeply perturbed and troubled, about whether humanity will survive another day.

The highlighted words are yours, not mine.

And your point is?

Then why not put, in your own words, what your own feeling are, about the imminent threats, facing the future existence of mankind on this planet.

After all, this is a public forum.

This public forum exists, for the purpose of people expressing ideas and hypotheses,
and for presenting arguments in support of those ideas and hypotheses.

And, for expressing their reasonable fears, on any particular issue.

And your point is?

[for all persons who believe in the theory of evolution...]
Extinction events [whatever their 'source' my be] are something which must be faced [confronted, accepted?], by all species on this planet, as simply one of the many natural, evolutionary processes, that will occur.

And though it would be very 'inconvenient' if such an event were to 'impact' specifically upon mankind's existence, why should mankind feel that he has the right to rail against such an occurrence ?

And as 'not an atheist' yourself, why are you, at all, concerned [or not] about the possible imminent demise of humanity on this planet ?

'Do you want to live forever!'

I must not fear.
Fear is the mind killer.
The little death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.
I will permit it to passover me and through me.
And when it has gone passed, I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
Where the fear has gone there will be nothing.
Only I will remain.

Read the OP. You have gone off along vague tangents. The OP contains my perspective, which is not the "fear" or "feelings," of yours. Stop making assumptions about what I believe or how I see life. If you have a specific question, I will endeavour to answer it. But if you are trying to prove something, you are in the wrong thread.

Do you think that dead Zebra being eaten by lions has gone to heaven?

jasin,

Think of your hand, not as a part of yourself,
but as an 'implement', which you use, to act [YOUR will] within this [physical] reality.

Now, think of your own body,    .......in this world     [.....performing 'actions' in YOUR life here].

What is your existence here, in this 'reality', 'accomplishing' ?

yourself = = used as the object of a verb or preposition when this is the same as the subject of the clause and the subject is the person or people being addressed.

implement  = =
1 a tool, utensil, or other piece of equipment, used for a particular purpose.
2 [Scots Law] performance of an obligation.

will2 = = the faculty by which a person decides on and initiates action.

.

Hebrews 9:27
.......it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Revelation 9:20
And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk:
21  Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.

There are only 2 immortalities for Humans.
One is Race, the other is Culture.
Race is to keep procreating humans into the future and
Culture is what we create materialistically like Pyramids to Space Probes. Both in hope that they will last the distance into the future for as long as possible.

Some races 'die' out and are remembered only by fossils and even a book like a Bible will one day be nothing but a relic of the past on a museum shelf... that's if there are those in the future who will dig them both up, to be remembered as memory.

But all things die, even this world.
There is no Biblical heaven as described. It's no different to Pagan stories of afterlife. It can only process a rebirth like Great Britain one day dying in Europe, to be reborn in America come the time. Like Jews killed in Europe, to live again in Israel. And so on.

Everything is 'earthbound' in the process of life and death here. When YOU yourself die Yadda. Your Soul's journey goes into that novel you wrote, or that record you made or that Bridge you built to carry your name into the future for your descendants to hopefully remember you by.
When Jesus (homosexual) died. He really died kaput. But his only heavenly hope was to be remembered for who he was, what he did (sacrificial victim for others) by future generations.
Religious Heaven, Paradise, etc - is always bound to this world. For so long, it was considered with make believe that it was up there beyond the sky. But we now know that there is only more death and destruction up there beyond the atmosphere.

So when you die Yadda. Your soul might feed the lions. That's about all. Burp!

Loophole?: Who knows. One day they might genetically recreate the Pharoah King Tut as if Reincarnated. Do you think he would say "I knew I would be back!" or "Am I in the Afterlife?"
Either way, there is NOTHINGNESS in between. Such is DEATH. A great nothingness beyond leaving behind your bower like a good Bowerbird.

Even this post will be lost, in time... like tears in rain.
Time to die.
