A Victorian Labor MP who was barred from entering the United States while on an official parliamentary visit last month
made two secret trips to Syria this year.
Khalil Eideh, a
Labor upper house MP and joint Syrian-Australian citizen, was blocked by the Donald Trump administration from entering the US in July and put on a plane from Vancouver to Melbourne.
The US has not explained its refusal, though Syria is on its list of nations whose citizens are currently barred entry.
Mr Eideh said at the time his treatment was "disgusting" and told Fairfax Media upon his return that he had last visited Syria, where he has family, at Christmas last year.

he MP in fact visited the war-torn Middle East nation twice this year, on privately funded trips,
an Andrews government spokeswoman confirmed.
The government spokesperson did not explain why Mr Eideh falsely claimed last month that he had not visited Syria since Christmas, when in fact he had made two subsequent trips.
