“A Global Warming Primer—Answering your questions about The Science, the Consequences, and the Solutions” by Jeffrey Bennett.

Should be good. Like to get something more technical next, after I have read this book.

I would recommend it to all the deniers here but denial is driven not by knowledge but by fear.

Denial is driven by Jevons Paradox: the secret weapon of the obscenely wealthy!

By France banning petrol and diesel cars by 2040 it changes everything,.. If it were said that a journey of a thousand miles begins with the the first step it could also equally be said that we are already on the journey!

We always were: the industrial revolution was about the constant improvement of process a bit like the rest of humanity's journey was!

Lee and the other billion fake conservatives are just playing pause button politics to get a better grip on exactly where the inevitable is going I.e. They are just engaging in conversation like any other dullard and a really do believe in climate change but simply want better numbers on the subject is all.

The world turns and the trolls know it... In other words lee and the other fake conservatives are pretend trolls ... When a spark leaves the fire that's it  Cheesy

It is a good first step even if little more than a gesture now.

I do remain optimistic that a solution to AGW will be found. Have to believe that because I love and care for my young great and great great nieces and nephews. Because of deniers encouraged by fossil fuel interests in various ways and the stupidity and lack of awareness of most people about anything but the minutia of their daily lives the solution will be implemented later and so at greater cost.

Why people feel the need to resist the advance of renewable energy I do not know. It will mean cleaner skies, healthier lives, lower cost electricity and no black lung for coal miners. Win-Win.

It's all about large momentum systems: like economies that require subsidies to grease the palms of industry that power it the larger government intervention into the market makes it ever more difficult to take back. The weakness of large momentum systems is also their power  Grin

It always starts with a murmur: like a drawing starts with gesture lines through the large axes!

Ideas,... The constant improvement of ideas  Cheesy

Who's going to second France's motion? This country once had pride didn't it or was that a fable?

Yes, momentum and inertia are powerful factors.

So is self interest. No matter how rich people get they ALWAYS want more.

Deniers need something more pictorial. They cannot comprehend words, sentences, and paragraphs.

Yes, but I suppose the idea of the regulated market is to engage, read employ, that as a useful resource.

Enterprise is rewarded.

The weakness of the large momentum system is also its strength. (I suppose I'm trying to allude to my/a notion of said greed actually providing the basic strength of the aforementioned large momentive system!)

Jevons Paradox is used to specifically talk about fossil fuel use but the words themselves apply to any resource..... any system breaks down according to the second law of thermodynamics: even man made system because I suppose system corrupts man thus constant improvement not only applies to physical plant!

I swear I haven't been drinking ( ...as much as I used too anyway  Tongue)

Ajax, we know that greenhouse gases put into the atmosphere by us burning fossil fuels do act like greenhouse gases by absorbing IR photons heading into space. This energises the GHG molecules causing them to vibrate more quickly causing heat. The photon is re-emitted shortly after being absorbed and may end up being redirected downwards, and so on.

The result is, as has been shown by spectrometry both terrestrial and satellite, that IR at the black body temperature of the earth shows gaps where the GHG spectra are. Less IR escaping means the globe heats up, that is certain like 1 + 1 = 2.

This is all measured and documented and requires no models or whatever.

There is over 40% more CO2 in the atmosphere (plus methane and soon another even deadlier GHG, nitrous oxide) than before the Industrial Revolution. There is more CO2 in the air than has been the case for millions of years.

I published long extracts from a scientific paper showing that the sun as it brightened from precambrian etc time to now always was in balance with CO2. Now the sun continues brightening as it heads for its ultimate heat death and now we are putting more CO2 in the atmosphere.

This should make you think not run away from thinking!

That second last paragraph was interesting: where did you publish those long extracts?
