Does Juliar use free renewable sunlight energy ?

Does anyone know ?

Next question is how much does he pay for it compared to his dingy dim coal fired powered light bulbs ? Cheesy LOL

LostNail,

sounds like U have hit the end of the road and your last resort is to ATTACK THE POSTER!!!!

Never mind the TRUTH but it is hard to argue when you have no argument.

Nails must believe all that 'free' sunlight energy must enter the power grid through osmosis and just powers up his dim bulbs without and input or processing by man or machine, or most importantly cost.

BigOld,

you are a breath of informed intelligent fresh air among the musty uninformed Lefties and Greenies types.

The Greenie types get most of their misinformation by rummaging thru the piles of rubbish on the Greenie Propaganda Sites.

They then recite this stuff without really having a clue what they are on about.

So your duty as a hard hitting deliverer of TRUTH is to try to educate these poor technically bereft soles.

Where these misguided soles seem to go astray is that they try to extrapolate a simple home solar system to a network national supply system.

Their simple minds seem to think just because their simple home solar with a few batteries sort of works then why wouldn't the whole country work like this ?

The fundamental fact that they overlook is that a home system ALWAYS has a BACKUP in the mains so that the odd cloudy day or wet week seems to pass without problems.

anyone who actually operates off the mains altogether deserves a medal for persistence and stubborness as they reach for the candles.

In the big network system there must ALWAYS be a reliable stable frequency and voltage supply for industry using modern computer controlled production equipment.

The renewable rubbish is inherently erratic and unstable due to its erratic energy input.

The backup is not simple as it has to be able to pick up the load QUICKLY when the wind drops etc. Hydro can do this fairly well but there is not enough hydro.

Gas turbines are fairly quick but still need time to reach speed and then synchronize.

Coal thermal CANNOT be quickly brought on line as it takes about a day to stabilize.

So if hydro is NOT available then the backup gas or coal generator must be kept going all the time which means the cost of electricity will DOUBLE as it is being generated TWICE!!!!!   Just look at Sth Aust's sky high electricity prices.

In SA many businesses have their own diesel generator which can rapidly cut in when required. Diesel is now cheaper than electricity in SA.

Some time ago Coca Cola left SA because of the power problems.  And now people are leaving SA to get work.

Now stand by for the howls of protests from the woebegone Lefties and Greenies.

Aha! the BigMac is the first howl of protest. No doubt more to come.

But now facts instead of fiction as home storage fires waiting to happen lithium batteries to be banned!!!!!!

The new standard that could kill the home battery storage market
By Giles Parkinson on 3 July 2017

The battery storage industry is warning that the market for lithium-ion battery installations could be killed even before it has taken off if proposed new Australian standards do not fall in line with international installation guidelines.

...
Definitely not allowed in Australia under new standards.

As we reported last month, the draft from Standards Australia will effectively ban lithium-ion battery storage inside homes and garages after declaring it to be a category 1 fire risk. It will mean any installations will need to be built in a concrete bunker, making it impossible for many homes and costly for others.

The proposals have been described as a massive case of over-reach, even by groups whose members form part of the standards advisory committee. Some have suggested that the standards process – which normally takes several years – has been rushed.

Most of all, they point out that the new standards do not reflect international practice, nor are they based on any known threat. Home battery storage systems would be banned, while lithium-ion batteries for laptops, mobile phones and other devices, electric vehicles, and gas bottles are not.

...
Glen Morris, from the Australian Storage Council, says even the prospect of these new rules could see a dent in the market, just as it begins to take off with the release of the new Tesla Powerwalls, and new models and products from the likes of LG Chem, Sonnenbatterie, BYD and many others.

...
Tesla Powerwall 2

He says that if the new drafts are actually enacted, it would have a devastating impact on the industry. This, in turn, has major implications for Australia’s energy future.

The CSIRO and the Australian Energy Market Operator have both pointed to the crucial role that battery storage installed in homes and businesses can play in a future grid ever more dependent on renewable energy sources.

But if these standards are unchanged, that market – estimated by the CSIRO at up to 85GWh by 2040 – and others as crucial to help businesses avoid soaring demand charges, will simply fail to materialise.

The main issue is that all lithium batteries are classed as Fire Hazard Class 1 and the principal clause that is causing the problem is 4.5.3.

Clause 4.5.3 says:

The installation requirements for battery types shown as fire hazard level 1 in Table 3.1, are as follows:
(a) Shall not be installed inside a domestic dwelling.
(b) Shall not be installed within 1 m of any access/egress area.
(c) Shall not be installed under any part of a domestic dwelling.

That means they can’t be installed inside any building on a domestic residence and if outside they must not be less than 1m from a structure, and must be in a huge 3m x 2m + eaves fire shelter.

Morris, one of many who sits on the committee, says he was surprised by the formal issue of the draft guidelines, given that there were future meetings and discussions. “It is being rushed, but I’m not sure how or why. There has been very little stakeholder engagement.”
He is urging the industry to respond to the drafts on the Standard Australia website. Submissions are due by August 15. This call is expected to be taken up with gusto by the solar and storage industry and consumer associations.

The industry has already made its views known, describing the proposals as ridiculous and extreme. Some of the biggest battery storage manufacturers in the world, LG Chem and Sonnenbatterie, describe the new proposals as over-kill.

Morris says the issue can possibly be addressed by allowing an exemption to those battery storage products that fit into international standards.

The European standard, known as IEC 62619:2017, sets out in detail the operating requirements of battery storage devices, but does not go to the extreme of banning them outright from homes and buildings.

The US standard, which is similar to IEC 62619, cannot be adopted by Standards Australia because there is no commercial arrangement between the two organisations.

We all use renewable energy in the grand scheme of things since it is a component of the energy supply to home and business.... whether we signed up for it or not...

It's not run through the system on a separate network, you know...... and the 'divisions' are purely semantic.....

And now to the real problem with energy supply - privatisation.................. and the attack of the multi-headed and hungry power supply industry with its craven need to feed multiple board members, ceos and shareholders off the cream before the peasants get to turn a switch.....

Once again - so much for the efficiencies of 'private' enterprise - an enterprise only entered into after guarantees are handed out by the government selling off our resources giving guarantees that will ensure that if the poor darlings go bust or the government decides the whole deal didn't work and wants its control of power back - they'll be paid out for life (which will only leave the small shareholders out of pocket - watch this space)...  nothing short of a revolution will force the re-nationalisation of the power grid and power supply controlled by a singe EFFICIENT body.

(now bring on the crypto-Fascists to screech that such an idea is 'communist', and also the crypto-Stalinists to screech that such an idea is 'Fascist')....

The Grappler has a howl of protest as he grapples with Greenie fantasy stuff.

The evil of renewables that the Greenie types avoid like the plague unless they have to pay the bills - high cost.

But there is no escape because businesses have to pass on the increased costs.

Power bills jump $100k – Business forced into liquidation
JUNE 30, 2017 ROBERT      20 COMMENTS

Electricity bills increased from $80,000 to $180,000 over the past 18 months.

South Australia’s sky-high electricity prices have forced an Adelaide plastics recycler to shut its doors,” says this article on abc.net.au.

The shut-down will cost 35 workers their jobs.

...
Plastics Granulating Services managing director Stephen Scherer said the high cost of power had crippled his business of 38 years and  had led to his company being placed in liquidation.

Den Tucker, the managing director of a company that had been using Mr Scherer’s plastics recycling services, said, “The price of our power has gone through similar numbers and we employ 45 people.”

“There is no solution being put forward at the present time,” said Tucker. “Our government is asleep at the wheel.

Thanks to Sultanaman for this link“This is direct evidence of why renewables harm the environment,” says Suyltanaman.

Reader Rosco Mac explains the situation thusly:South Australia’s madness affects the rest of eastern Australia because 2 other state governments privatized their electricity supply totally.

Hence when demand is high in South Australia and the big bad wolf isn’t “a-huffin and a-puffin” they import electricity through their grid connection to Victoria and the rest of eastern Australia.

The “spot” price escalates to many many times what suppliers normally get so they all line up to try to sell to South Australia.

If the South Australian government weren’t able to buy electricity from the rest of us who still have reliable coal fired power stations we’d be better of and the people of South Australia would be “lynching all their parliamentarians.

Only one state in eastern Australia did not sell their electricity generation companies – Queensland.

And guess who has the cheapest electricity (despite joining in the ridiculous solar program where solar panels used to get paid double the retail price for electricity subsidized by all the suckers who can’t afford solar panels) – Queensland !

Other states electricity prices rise by up 20% tomorrow – July 1.Queensland – less than 3% !

And the grappling Grappler is still grappling with the ungrappible.

But back to reality and astronomical increases in power cost is sending Sth Australians into an early poverty.

Do Australians really want Labor with its ruddiculous 50% renewable rubbish to reduce ALL Australia to a 17th century basket case ?

Power prices pushing more people into poverty
JUNE 28, 2017 ROBERT      6 COMMENTS

“Do they pay their credit cards?
Do they pay their utility bill?
Do they buy food for the table?”

“South Australia power prices to rise to highest in the world.” reads the headline.

When the country’s major energy retailers jack up their prices on July 1, it will add hundreds of dollars to annual household bills.

Residential customers will see a rise of 16.1 to 19.9 per cent.

“The latest increases are remarkable — the household price going up by around a fifth on top of the existing prices is extraordinary,” said Bruce Mountain, head of a private energy consultancy firm.

“It’s very rare to see such large increases in retail electricity from one year to the next.

Power prices pushing more people into poverty.

...
Anglicare SA’s general manager of community services Nancy Penna said demand for the organisation’s financial services had increased by as much as 20 per cent this year.

“We’ve calculated that there are at least 500 additional, new people coming to our services seeking financial assistance and counselling related to their cost of living,” she said.

“People will actually state that they can’t pay their electricity bills and they’re having to make decisions about which bills to pay.
“Do they pay their credit cards?
Do they pay their utility bill?
Do they buy food for the table?

Ms Penna said she believed demand would increase further, when the new, higher power bills start to arrive.

All this because of the global warming hoax.

“What the story does not make plain is that South Australia has decided to go “all renewable” electrical power supply,” says reader Oz.

“The Greenies got the State Government to shut down the only coal fired power station at Port Augusta, and go with Wind Turbines and (some) solar.

“The whole problem is that in very high winds, the wind turbines have to shut down (or they fall apart),” Oz continues.

“And the other source of electrical power is the inter-state link, which had some of the power lines blown down by the wind. In the Old Days, this would not have mattered too much, because the coal-fired Port Augusta Power Station could take over.

Now, they have gone and shut it down, to “reduce Global Warming.”.

“In the last few minutes, the Australian media have reported the entire South Australian mobile phone network is about to run out of emergency power supply and shut down.

Thanks to Sultanaman for this link “This is where believing in suspect science has got this state,” says Sultanaman.

The SA Govt has gone for the much more practical hydrogen power for its buses.

It panders for the few electric risk of being stranded cars by putting in a few charging points.

It will be a tragic shock to the Greenies that Whyalla steel works is taken over by London instead of being closed.

But their problem with their erratic unstable very expensive unreliable power system still remains for a Liberal Govt to fix.

Wonder where Whyalla Steel Works gets its power from ? Diesel ?  Whyalla Steel is making the railway tracks for the ADANI Coal Mine in Nth Qld.

Fast-track to a low-carbon highway as State Government announces hydrogen bus trial
Luke Griffiths The Advertiser JUNE 23, 2017 11:04AM

...
Fuel cell bus on the exposition

ADELAIDE is set to become home to six hydrogen-fuelled buses as part of a $9 million commitment that the State Government hopes will achieve its goal of becoming the world’s first carbon-neutral city.

It will spend almost $5 million in the coming financial year and $8.2 million over four years on constructing a hydrogen production facility, a refuelling station, and a trial that will initially see six buses hit the road.

The “Hydrogen Roadmap” — as the State Government has labelled it — will further position South Australia as a leader in the transition to a low-carbon future, according to Treasurer Tom Koutsantonis.

“By positioning ourselves as a leader in that transition and embracing new technology, we can ensure we are at the forefront of attracting the investment and job opportunities these new technologies bring,” he said.

On the low-carbon theme, $200,000 will be spent installing electric car charging facilities for 10 parking spaces in the Adelaide CBD, plus a further $75,000 for electric vehicle recharging stations at yet-to-be-announced locations.

Half a million dollars will go towards a partnership with Adelaide City Council that supports the installation of battery systems to help manage the demand for power from businesses located in city laneways.

Mr Koutsantonis said

the state’s new grid-scale battery,

announced in March as part of the State Government’s $550 million energy plan, was on track to be up and running by December 1. A short-listing process has taken place, although the Government has not revealed exactly how many remain in the race to build and manage the battery.

The Government reaffirmed

its commitment to building a $360 million, 250MW gas-fired power plant,

which would likely take the number of new generators of that kind in SA to three.

Earlier this month, AGL announced it would build a 210MW facility at Torrens Island, while it is understood that

the Korean consortium that was last week named as the preferred bidder for Arrium

has committed to building a similar sized operation adjacent to the Whyalla steelworks.

The Government has said that its gas plant will only be switched on in times of emergency.
“This is a significant investment we had to make in the interest of SA households and businesses,” Mr Koutsantonis said. “We couldn’t wait any longer.”

Mr Koutsantonis said the sale of Arrium would be finalised “very soon” and that State Government funding was dependant on the Korean consortium, headed by Newlake Alliance, retaining the company’s entire Whyalla workforce of more than 2500 people.

Geez won't the Greenies be spitting chips now that Whyalla Steel is saved as they would have been hoping it would be closed as part of their purge of all industry in SA.

Just imagine all the CO2 that would be emitted and the load on the shaky power system.

Locals 'bound up' in Whyalla steelworks
Source: AAP 2 HOURS AGO

...
Former steelworker turned MP, Eddie Hughes says like many families in Whyalla his has been bound up in the Arrium steelworks.

For Eddie Hughes Arrium's Whyalla steelworks have played a big part in his life - from a young boy, through to adulthood and his time as a father.

Now the state Labor MP for the area, Mr Hughes previously worked as a steel seamer at the plant.

His father had also worked as a fitter in the machine shop and his mother as a cleaner at the coke ovens.

Even today, his son still works for Arrium.

"Like a lot of people in Whyalla, we've just been bound up in the steelworks," he said.

"It has been what has given us our opportunities in life."

So it's little wonder Mr Hughes is very happy to see the deal signed to sell Arrium's entire operations, including the Whyalla facility, to billionaire industrialist Sanjeev Gupta.

The deal is expected to secure about 1500 direct jobs at Arrium in Whyalla and another 1500 in the local community.

Mr Hughes said uncertainty over the past 15 months had caused "all sorts of pain" with some businesses closing and others just hanging on.

"For the Whyalla people, they were just over it," he said.

"They just wanted a sign off with a new owner and it looks like we've got a new owner that is willing to invest in modernising the steelworks.

"And because we're a tough and resilient community, this news today and what is going to flow from this news, I believe we are going to bounce back quickly."

Whyalla Mayor Lyn Breuer said the town had been through a "terrible time" since Arrium was placed in administration.

"There has been a lot of uncertainty, a lot of doom and gloom," she said.

"For quite some time people have felt very uncomfortable."

Ms Breuer said it was something of a surprise that GFG Alliance had emerged as the successful bidder but she believed the group had a strong record in turning companies around.

"We're very comfortable they'll be able to do the same for us," she told ABC radio.

Looks like the solar/battery powered bus are already operating in South Australia and are actually here today unlike the never ever hydrogen bullshit which is always 20 years away Cheesy LOL

http://reneweconomy.com.au/adelaide-creates-worlds-first-solar-powered-public-tr...

...

Quote:
Adelaide creates world’s first solar-powered public transport system

Many local communities are looking at ways that they can incorporate green technology into their city’s municipal infrastructure. One impressive success story is the Tindo electric bus in Adelaide. Although many cities have experimented with using hybrid or electric technology in their public transport systems, this vehicle is the world’s first 100% solar-powered electric bus; and not only is it powered by the sun, but this service is also offered free of charge.

tindobusNamed after an Aboriginal word for “sun”, the Tindo was designed to be part of the Adelaide Connector Bus service, a free service run by the City Council. What makes the bus unique from other solar-powered vehicles is that there aren’t any solar panels physically on the vehicle. Instead, the car received electric power from solar panels located on the city’s central bus station.

These provide enough energy to allow the bus to run freely from the city centre and the North Adelaide, and will also offer air conditioning and WiFi to its 40 passengers.

The Council commissioned this bus from a New Zealand company called Designline International, as part of a wider green initiative.

Adelaide residents have shown a keen interest in reducing emissions, with many seeking out hybrid cars like the MitsMirubishi age, or choosing to go electric, while many residents already choose to carpool or bicycle on their commute as well. In the City Council’s Strategy Plan for 2012-2016, further plans to make the streets more sustainable are outlined. This includes a more comprehensive network of footpaths and bike trails to enable commuters to get around without a car.

The latest figures from 2010 showed that 36% of the city’s carbon emissions came from transportation. Although residents are turning to hybrids like new Ssangyong cars and the ever-popular Prius to reduce personal emissions, the city’s public transportation network has helped further reduce emissions. The Tindo has no combustion engine, which makes it a zero emissions vehicle. Its regenerative braking system also saves an additional 30% of energy consumption. In its first year alone it’s estimated that the solar-powered bus saved over 70,000 kg of carbon emissions and 14,000 litres of diesel.

Due to its unique solar photovoltaic charging system and ability to travel over 200 kilometres between recharges, this vehicle has received a great deal of attention from the wider green community. It’s been featured in the Solar City Convention Spirit Festival, Global Green Challenge, and Heritage Bus Tour. Although solar busses can be found in Austria, China, Wales, and India, they have yet to become a widespread public transport solution. Of these various solar busses, the Tindo is still the only one which is completely powered by the sun.

The Tindo’s success shows that public transportation can be further improved to reduce a community’s carbon emissions while improving the residents’ way of life at the same time. Its adoption has helped make Adelaide one of Australia’s most green-friendly cities, an attitude mirrored by its residents.

LostNail is getting quite excited what with having a go at an annoying poster who shatters his treasured notions and dredging up some ancient stuff from 12 September 2013 about a trial of electric buses that obviously wasn't a success.

The problem with all these electric thingos is the long time to recharge whereas the more modern hydrogen powered buses are much more convenient as they can be refueled in a few minutes just like LPG.

The hydrogen can be produced by electrolysis using the otherwise fairly useless windymills.

And the ever present problem of renewable rubbish is the very high cost as there has to be an ever present backup and so the power is being generated TWICE at TWICE the cost.

Not to mention the short life and constant costly maintenance of BOTH solar AND windymills and the shaky erratic power produced.

Solar on the simple domestic home, with some lithium batteries on the wall of the house just waiting to catch fire, works simply because there is always the mains backup for those overcast rainy days.

But I should no better than to try to explain technical stuff to a tech abhorring Greenie person.

LostNail, keep on fossicking thru the piles of rubbish on the Greenie Propaganda Sites, U never know what you might find.

But bear in mind that the REAL AGENDA 2030 of the Greenies is to trash Australia and reduce it to a primitive basket case just like SA.

What's with you libbos that you always have to force everyone to take it up the arse at the fool bowser ?

Why on earth would you create hydrogen (an inefficient process) when you can directly charge batteries ? Cheesy LOL

And how do you apply regenerative braking to a hydrogen vehicle and recapture lost energy due to braking ? A stupid idea which will never take off for obvious reasons.

LostNail,

calm down as SA is using hydrogen powered buses as they are much more convenient as can be quickly refueled like LPG.

They can make the hydrogen using the otherwise useless windymills by electrolysis.

The long recharge time is the killer for electric vehicles and, for a bus, it would take hours and hours and then the range would not be too good for such a large vehicle especially if Adelaide is hilly.

And the other killer for electric vehicles is the life of the very expensive battery and, if it is lithium, it is always a fire risk as lithium burns like crazy.

That's why lithium batteries are being banned on house walls because of the fire risk.

So hydrogen is rather attractive and is being introduced in California I seem to recall. Japan and Germany are already making hydrogen powered vehicles.

And hydrogen is extremely dangerous and hard to contain which is why you need expensive tanks made out of carbon fibre. Because it is a very small molecule it can easily leak and compromise any gas fittings !!

Lithium burns like crazy and yet the batteries are used in nearly every mobile device on the planet but of course it is only dangerous when its used in an EV Cheesy LOL

And why bother making hydrogen ??

The time it takes to make hydrogen would probably be longer than the time it takes to charge up batteries. Whilst one bus is being charged from rooftop solar PV the other is out on the road doing it's rounds and making money for the owners. It's a no brainer and it's here today and cheap. No hydrogen plants or expensive carbon fiber hydrogen tanks operating under huge pressures Wink

And how do you recapture energy by regeneration when braking ? You need on-board storage for that Wink

As we reported last month, the draft from Standards Australia will effectively ban lithium-ion battery storage inside homes and garages after declaring it to be a category 1 fire risk. It will mean any installations will need to be built in a concrete bunker, making it impossible for many homes and costly for others.

What about a concrete container for your mobile phone, laptop PC and cordless drill ? Cheesy LOL

But isn't it funny how when it comes to cheap arse flammable cladding and cheap arse glass that falls out of buildings on to walk ways the Luddites in Canberra are MIA Cheesy LOL

And what about mandatory building inspections before any house is sold ? Buyer beware even if the house has been chewed out by termites and is unsafe to live in. The pollies are looking the other way as usual Sad

LostNail is sitting in his armchair waving his arms about and getting flustered as he reaches the end of his tether and his treasured erroneous notions collapse into dust as they meet reality.

Reality does tend to crush fantasy. Just ask the long suffering people of Sth Aust as they pour diesel into their generators.

And the paw soal doesn't seem to grasp that hydrogen vehicles create electricity in the hydrogen converter and drive electric motors with a battery storage just like petrol powered hybrids.

Hydrogen is no more dangerous than the many LPG and LNG vehicles already running around.

Our future is hydrogen and Clean Coal. The almost useless windymills can be used to create hydrogen by electrolysis.
