The Greenie types get most of their misinformation by rummaging thru the piles of rubbish on the Greenie Propaganda Sites.

They then recite this stuff without really having a clue what they are on about.

So your duty as a hard hitting deliverer of TRUTH is to try to educate these poor technically bereft soles.

Where these misguided soles seem to go astray is that they try to extrapolate a simple home solar system to a network national supply system.

Their simple minds seem to think just because their simple home solar with a few batteries sort of works then why wouldn't the whole country work like this ?

The fundamental fact that they overlook is that a home system ALWAYS has a BACKUP in the mains so that the odd cloudy day or wet week seems to pass without problems.

anyone who actually operates off the mains altogether deserves a medal for persistence and stubborness as they reach for the candles.

In the big network system there must ALWAYS be a reliable stable frequency and voltage supply for industry using modern computer controlled production equipment.

The renewable rubbish is inherently erratic and unstable due to its erratic energy input.

The backup is not simple as it has to be able to pick up the load QUICKLY when the wind drops etc. Hydro can do this fairly well but there is not enough hydro.

Gas turbines are fairly quick but still need time to reach speed and then synchronize.

Coal thermal CANNOT be quickly brought on line as it takes about a day to stabilize.

So if hydro is NOT available then the backup gas or coal generator must be kept going all the time which means the cost of electricity will DOUBLE as it is being generated TWICE!!!!!   Just look at Sth Aust's sky high electricity prices.

In SA many businesses have their own diesel generator which can rapidly cut in when required. Diesel is now cheaper than electricity in SA.

Some time ago Coca Cola left SA because of the power problems.  And now people are leaving SA to get work.

Now stand by for the howls of protests from the woebegone Lefties and Greenies.

The new standard that could kill the home battery storage market

The battery storage industry is warning that the market for lithium-ion battery installations could be killed even before it has taken off if proposed new Australian standards do not fall in line with international installation guidelines.


Definitely not allowed in Australia under new standards.

As we reported last month, the draft from Standards Australia will effectively ban lithium-ion battery storage inside homes and garages after declaring it to be a category 1 fire risk. It will mean any installations will need to be built in a concrete bunker, making it impossible for many homes and costly for others.

The proposals have been described as a massive case of over-reach, even by groups whose members form part of the standards advisory committee. Some have suggested that the standards process – which normally takes several years – has been rushed.

Most of all, they point out that the new standards do not reflect international practice, nor are they based on any known threat. Home battery storage systems would be banned, while lithium-ion batteries for laptops, mobile phones and other devices, electric vehicles, and gas bottles are not.


Glen Morris, from the Australian Storage Council, says even the prospect of these new rules could see a dent in the market, just as it begins to take off with the release of the new Tesla Powerwalls, and new models and products from the likes of LG Chem, Sonnenbatterie, BYD and many others.

He says that if the new drafts are actually enacted, it would have a devastating impact on the industry. This, in turn, has major implications for Australia’s energy future.

The CSIRO and the Australian Energy Market Operator have both pointed to the crucial role that battery storage installed in homes and businesses can play in a future grid ever more dependent on renewable energy sources.

But if these standards are unchanged, that market – estimated by the CSIRO at up to 85GWh by 2040 – and others as crucial to help businesses avoid soaring demand charges, will simply fail to materialise.

The main issue is that all lithium batteries are classed as Fire Hazard Class 1 and the principal clause that is causing the problem is 4.5.3.

Clause 4.5.3 says:

The installation requirements for battery types shown as fire hazard level 1 in Table 3.1, are as follows:
(a) Shall not be installed inside a domestic dwelling.
(b) Shall not be installed within 1 m of any access/egress area.
(c) Shall not be installed under any part of a domestic dwelling.

That means they can’t be installed inside any building on a domestic residence and if outside they must not be less than 1m from a structure, and must be in a huge 3m x 2m + eaves fire shelter.

Morris, one of many who sits on the committee, says he was surprised by the formal issue of the draft guidelines, given that there were future meetings and discussions. “It is being rushed, but I’m not sure how or why. There has been very little stakeholder engagement.”
He is urging the industry to respond to the drafts on the Standard Australia website. Submissions are due by August 15. This call is expected to be taken up with gusto by the solar and storage industry and consumer associations.

The industry has already made its views known, describing the proposals as ridiculous and extreme. Some of the biggest battery storage manufacturers in the world, LG Chem and Sonnenbatterie, describe the new proposals as over-kill.

Morris says the issue can possibly be addressed by allowing an exemption to those battery storage products that fit into international standards.

The European standard, known as IEC 62619:2017, sets out in detail the operating requirements of battery storage devices, but does not go to the extreme of banning them outright from homes and buildings.

The US standard, which is similar to IEC 62619, cannot be adopted by Standards Australia because there is no commercial arrangement between the two organisations.

Electricity bills increased from $80,000 to $180,000 over the past 18 months.

South Australia’s sky-high electricity prices have forced an Adelaide plastics recycler to shut its doors,” says this article on abc.net.au.

The shut-down will cost 35 workers their jobs.


Plastics Granulating Services managing director Stephen Scherer said the high cost of power had crippled his business of 38 years and  had led to his company being placed in liquidation.

Den Tucker, the managing director of a company that had been using Mr Scherer’s plastics recycling services, said, “The price of our power has gone through similar numbers and we employ 45 people.”

“There is no solution being put forward at the present time,” said Tucker. “Our government is asleep at the wheel.

The “spot” price escalates to many many times what suppliers normally get so they all line up to try to sell to South Australia.

Only one state in eastern Australia did not sell their electricity generation companies – Queensland.

“South Australia power prices to rise to highest in the world.” reads the headline.

When the country’s major energy retailers jack up their prices on July 1, it will add hundreds of dollars to annual household bills.

Residential customers will see a rise of 16.1 to 19.9 per cent.

“The latest increases are remarkable — the household price going up by around a fifth on top of the existing prices is extraordinary,” said Bruce Mountain, head of a private energy consultancy firm.

“It’s very rare to see such large increases in retail electricity from one year to the next.

Anglicare SA’s general manager of community services Nancy Penna said demand for the organisation’s financial services had increased by as much as 20 per cent this year.

“We’ve calculated that there are at least 500 additional, new people coming to our services seeking financial assistance and counselling related to their cost of living,” she said.

“People will actually state that they can’t pay their electricity bills and they’re having to make decisions about which bills to pay.

Ms Penna said she believed demand would increase further, when the new, higher power bills start to arrive.

Now, they have gone and shut it down, to “reduce Global Warming.”.
