Sad, but the doctor was wrong to scold him.

The doctor was being way too precious by half, and should have minded his own business.

It's just not realistic to suppose that someone smoking a cigarette outside the entrance to the hospital is doing something that will have a lethal effect upon people coming and going from the hospital.

It was evidence of chronic bed-wetting that he didn't apply a little rational thought to the situation.

Sad, but was an own-goal. Probably off to the crematorium now to do some smoking of his own.

The moral of the story is: Don't get above your station in life and start dictating what others should do in a free society.i

It was his business.

He had a duty of care.

The thug was smoking in the non-smoking area outside the front entrance of the hospital.

I hope this scumbag is put away for a very long time.

Our Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has just given a glowing reference to a footballer who did exactly the same thing to another player ... knocked him cold with one punch.

Result?

Two week's suspension from the field.

I have no interest in Gay FL, for reasons such as that.

So a surgeon at the hospital told someone smoking in the non-smoking area outside the front entrance of the Hospital to stop and it was an own-goal?

The smoker was breaking the law (assuming the rules in Victoria are the same as in QLD) and you'll take this line?

Herb mate, I know you're a small government kind of guy but you're being a total dickhead on this subject, which you're entitled to be, but dickhead nonetheless.

I too hope this thug who apparently thinks he has a right to knock anyone down who dares to tell him to do the right thing.. now two little girls have lost their father...

I trust they throw the book at him and put him in the toughest prison...where he will do it tough..

no one is allowed to stand near a door smoking in the ACT  why are not these rules universal....no one should smoke within a hundred feet of a hospital doorway....

as a non smoker its sickening to get that mouthful as you leave a building..... may as well lick an ashtray  thats how bad they stink...

RIP to this young man and father..

I trust you get justice.

Own goal.

There are ways of telling someone not to smoke in a certain area, and it's a pebble to Ayre's Rock that this doctor let fly with a mouthful of demeaning abuse that the Arab just wasn't going to cop.

There wouldn't have been the slightest intention to kill the doctor.

That's a non sequitur.

Back to the drawing board.

I visit SCGH (QEII) quite regularly.

It's completely smoke-free.

...

"You are not permitted to smoke anywhere inside the hospital or outside within the QEIIMC grounds."

http://www.scgh.health.wa.gov.au/Patients_Visitors/pdf/Brochures/WelcometoSCGHbr...

However, every time I visit, there are people sitting in wheelchairs in front of the "NO Smoking" signs, with drips attached to their arms, smoking.

...

The hospital staff do absolutely nothing about it, because of the violence.

Smokers don't like being told they're breaking the law, and they often get very violent.

If any patient is caught smoking on the hospital grounds, they should be discharged immediately and escorted off the premises by the police.

No exceptions.

"Eastern Health is totally tobacco-free. Under the Tobacco Act 1987 smoking is prohibited within four metres of an entrance to all Victorian public hospitals and registered community health centres. Smoking is not allowed in the buildings or on the grounds of any of our sites, including walkways, entrances and car parks."

Are you fairdinkum?

What a crap response to the death of a hospital doctor .. a heart surgeon at that caused by a drug f8cked mongrel who was probably smoking to close to the entrance of the hospital.

He should have been at a minimum 4 or 5 mtrs away or in the case of hospitals in a designated smoking area which most have.

You must have made those comments merely as a bait
to get negative responses.

Well put me down for that.

You oughta be ashamed of yourself & if you read your own link you would have seen that the assailant was in a "non-smoking" area.

Quote:
The heart surgeon told Esmaili off for smoking in the non-smoking area outside the front entrance of Box Hill Hospital.

So the man is dead , killed by a coward punch from behind & all you have to say is the doctor was being precious?

You're a right TNUC.

This is where you Far Left wankers get all fired up with righteous zeal. It's the same with the Global Warming bed-wetters.

Those smokers sitting in front of the No Smoking signs are perfectly aware that what they're doing effects no one but themselves, and that the notice was put there by wankers on a mission to stamp their feet and pout because some people like to do what they themselves disapprove of.

Meddling socialists is what we're witnessing here.

And then these righteous doctors will drive around in cars that spew carcinogenic gases.

The hypocrisy sucks the oxygen out of the air.

They're deliberately harming themselves, and then expect to be treated in the the public hospital for free.

No way, Jose.

You smoke, you don't get to enter a public hospital.

Simples.

All fag-arsed pretentious nonsense.

If smoking outdoors is so critical to public health, then why isn't smoking banned by government decree.

Why is Turnbull having a plebiscite on the sanctity of anal sex instead of asking the public to decide if smoking should be entirely banned as so many illicit drugs are?
