Long-term smokers are at a higher risk of developing a range of potentially deadly diseases including:

Cancer of the lungs, mouth, nose, throat, oesophagus, pancreas, kidney, liver, bladder, bowel, ovary, cervix, bone marrow, and stomach.

Lung diseases such as Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) which includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema.

Heart disease , heart attack and stroke.

Poor blood circulation in feet and hands, which can lead to pain and, in severe cases, gangrene and amputation.

my dad died at 89  smoked since he was about 12 I think...his fingers were black and I mean black from nicotine   never remember him without a cigarette yet his lungs were clear...he suffered from gout .

he was a miserable old bugger so I reckon that was what kept him here so long...

look at CHurchill smoked those cigars...

Just as people getting a bit of a whiff of tobacco will do no harm.

Excuse me, but:

"There is no level of exposure to secondhand smoke that is free of risk."

"Secondhand smoke (SHS) has the same harmful chemicals that smokers inhale. There’s no safe level of exposure for secondhand smoke (SHS)."

Why is that Greg?

You'll have to ask the experts.

Bottom line: smoking serves no other purpose other than deteriorating one's health.

Moreover, one puff (or smell of second hand smoke) is enough to do damage.

Had a good night out on Geoff Hannah's dollar. Great set of neighbours we have.
While I agree with your bottom line, I disagree with your moreover. It contains the same chemicals that are in wood smoke, if one puff of one is enough to do damage, one sniff of the other is also and vise versa. Let's not drop all rationality because you are one of the ex-smokers that whine like buggery.

The same identical chemicals in the very same amounts?

Yeah, no...

Let's not drop all rationality because you are a whiny little bitch baby smoker trying to justify killing themselves or those around you while trying to convince yourself that you're in control of your addiction.

What chems does tobacco have that other biomass not have? I'm not trying to justify anything, I've said smoking is bad mkay. What I am saying is that this one sniff will give you cancer is crap. Any burnt vege matter has toxins, just because one is named tobacco does not make it worse than the others.

The Poll ...

To you who gave up recently ~ my sincere congratulations. You've taken the first step, and now the hardest part is yet to come, and that's to not back-slide on an impulse in the days and weeks to come.

It seems to be the implication, one sniff will do you harm, I can back that one up with a quote of yours.

Ah.

You moved the goal posts.

Sneaky.

Post any quote of mine you like, however, not one of them will say "one sniff will give you cancer".

Shall we stick with one whiff will cause you harm then? I'm happy with that.

Yes.

There is NO safe level of exposure.

Remember, though: smoking causes way more damage than just cancer.

Off to dinner now, so you'll have to debate this with someone else.

Then we are back at square one. If there is no safe level of exposure, there is no safe level of exposure to any burning plant matter. They all emit the same toxins.
