Greg, would you let kids sit around a campfire or BBQ?

You're starting an argument you won't win.

I'm going for dinner now.

When I return, I will make you look quite foolish.

Before you make me look foolish, read this. http://burningissues.org/ws-more-damage-ts.html

After you finish remember a cigarette is probably a 1/8 gram of plant matter, like wood.

Thanks for that.

I read your article from 2001.

Here's mine, from 2013:

No serious harm in breathing wood smoke

"New study surprises by telling us not to worry about breathing in dense wood smoke for up to hours at a time."

I have to go out in min for dinner but think about it, the same chemicals are in wood smoke that are in tobacco smoke, they are both plant matter. Studying people for three hours in smoke is probably not enough. Just as people getting a bit of a whiff of tobacco will do no harm.

From your article.
Quote:
Constant wood smoke exposure causes asthma and early death
New research from the US and Australia shows that reducing the emissions of wood smoke in residential areas has a significant effect on the development of asthma in children, and also on mortality.

Excuse me, but:

"There is no level of exposure to secondhand smoke that is free of risk."

"There’s no safe level of exposure for secondhand smoke (SHS)."

Why is that Greg? Wood smoke has the same chemicals.

Don't forget smokers get first hand and second hand smoke or does first hand smoke make you immune to the effect of shs? You don't think a group trying to stomp out smoking might be a little biased?

Seeya in a few hours.

You'll have to ask the experts.

Bottom line: smoking serves no other purpose other than deteriorating one's health.

Moreover, one puff (or smell of second hand smoke) is enough to do damage.

Proven benefits of smoking is that it inhibits the onset of Alzheimer's and it prevents tooth-decay, and ...

"When a person smokes, nicotine reaches the brain in eight seconds and causes the release of a chemical called dopamine. Dopamine causes feelings of pleasure and relaxation, a sensation the body craves again and again".

"The stress relief you get from smoking comes from the act of taking time out to smoke a cigarette and from the chemical actions of nicotine in your brain. ... Smoking is only a temporary solution for handling stress, tension, or depression".

"It increases oxygen to the brain, lowers stress, calms nerves and improves your mood! Share".

That myth has been debunked a million and one times.

Smoking does not lower stress or calm nerves.

Smoking serves no other purpose other than deteriorating one's health.

Smoking does reduce stress, but only stress that is related to the withdrawal of not smoking.

Look.

Tobacco, marijuana, alcohol, even Heroin and Opium are 'ancient' pain relief remedies.
If it was the Civil war and I had to 'saw' your leg off - I wouldn't hesitate in using any one of these to lessen the impact.
Now when you have a 'hole' to fill, these work.
But when there is no 'hole', they don't work and actually make a 'lump' so to speak that you will 'trip' over!
The 'problem' is that people take these when there is no 'problem' in the first place to justify their use.
So they are 'tripping' all over the place.
Pain Relievers need 'pain' to work.
No pain and you get a nasty side effect instead.
People who take these consistently (without pain) and for 'recreational'  Roll Eyes use find that when they do have pain or need their leg sawn off, that they have a very weak pain threshold and no amount of pain relief will alleviate their discomfort.

Find a person who has never smoked Pot and another person who has smoked it weekly for years. Saw their legs off and the 'non-smoker' when using it for the first time, would feel mild discomfort, while the pot head would probably die from the pain itself, even if he had 5 times more pot than the non-smoker at the time of the amputation.

Now, if I was Nursing and that 'smoker' gave me a look of 'anger' in his eyes - I wouldn't turn my back on him until I was absolutely sure the 'brat' was beyond a comeback, but as usual - their 'need for revenge' is obvious and he would attack me asap. I would of course kick his butt and in a Court of Law ...if you get beaten up by a Nurse, then you most likely 'deserved it'!  Wink

It's curious indeed that smoking is found in every corner of the planet, from the depth of the Amazon jungle to the foothills of the Himalayas, from Outback China to the villages of the Indian subcontinent, from the penthouse suites of the rich and famous to the Skid Row precincts of every major city.

Coincidence? Hardly.

It answers a need in just the same way as the consumption of alcohol so obviously satisfies a need.

"Alcohol makes a man feel like he should feel without alcohol".

W.C.Fields.

(Who said he forgot to thank his ex-wife for driving him to drink).

Had a good night out on Geoff Hannah's dollar. Great set of neighbours we have.
While I agree with your bottom line, I disagree with your moreover. It contains the same chemicals that are in wood smoke, if one puff of one is enough to do damage, one sniff of the other is also and vise versa. Let's not drop all rationality because you are one of the ex-smokers that whine like buggery.

The same identical chemicals in the very same amounts?

Yeah, no...

Let's not drop all rationality because you are a whiny little bitch baby smoker trying to justify killing themselves or those around you while trying to convince yourself that you're in control of your addiction.

Feel free to send me as much as you like. I think you should take up a collection, put it into an account and let me buy until the day I die, enough for the rest of my life, whatever I don't smoke, you can donate to the cancer council.

Bunch of moaners. I don't smoke near people that don't like it, I ask if I am near people. I don't smoke in the house anymore as we have my GChhild living here. Before that if I had visitors I would go outside without asking them.

You lot complain about the smell but over the top perfume makes me feel ill, can I stop women walking down the street wearing it? Get over yourselves. Do any of you let kids sit around an open fire?

I'd like to ask you to answer truthfully, do you believe SH smoking worse than smoking? I've read it is.

Grin that's because your nasal cavity & Olfactory nerve are covered in tar.

Honestly if you think the reek of stale tobacco is better than a perfume then you've been smoking way too long.

I can smell smokers from 5 mtrs or more ... the only smell that it is better than is ...

the stench of people with rank BO .... who obviously haven't heard of deodorant.
