SLostNail,

I think you might find there are 4 electric motors U NO 1 for each wheel as there are actually 4 wheels.

The permanent problem for electrics is the range and the long time to recharge.

Hydrogen has it all over batteries as the network is just like the existing LPG and refueling is quick and easy.

Pulling into a servo to recharge your Tesla means a half day wait while the hydrogen car just pulls in and leaves in 10 minutes or so.

The electronic complexity of the electric Tesla is a fertile field for complex very expensive problems and a service would be a nitemare with all that complex electronics to go wrong.

A well maintained reasonable new petrol or diesel car will just go on and on trouble free unless it is abused.

With electric Tesla there is the ever present fear of a flat battery despite all the beeps and GPS guidance to the nearest recharge 100kms away.

Imagine the cost of a 100km tow - $1000.00!!!

Hydrogen is all the go and networks are already being built. You can actually run a petrol car on hydrogen gas. Needs special oil tho like LPG.

Tesla hasn't released details of its charging so don't draw conclusions. One thing is for sure trucks are not driven 24 hours a day so there is plenty of time for a charge or top-up. This fact seems to allude you.

Also all modern fossil fool cars have complex electronics for the engine management etc. This fact also seems to allude you.

And this hydrogen rubbish was supposed to be here 20 years ago and today it is still 20 years off into the future Cheesy LOL

Only someone who was brain damaged would ignore the warning light for a charge. Note that you haven't said anything about the warning light when you run low on petrol.

SLostNail,

As an armchair arm waving Greenie you get a tick for persistence (stubborness) but not for your missing technical knowhow which is simply being copied off Greenie Propaganda Web Sites.

But like all Greenie types you will just go on and on till the cows come home and still say nothing.  Reminds one of Bull Shorten.

In the mean time in between time diesel will continue to power the BIG TRUCKS hauling 50tonne loads across Australia.

In case you were unaware LNG is widely used for public transport buses. LNG is a gas (methane) in case you did not know.

You need to deal with realities. There is only a finite amount of fossil fool on the planet and sooner or later it is going to run out not to mention irreversibly damage the environment so cut with the greenie propaganda nonsense. It is you who thinks the current status quo can keep going on indefinitely. Like Abort and his 400 years of coal Cheesy LOL

Tesla are smart people. They employ some of the smartest people around. Do you honestly think they have not thought through the energy supply chain and logistics for this ?

Contrary to your predecessor longprong58 who has been proven wrong on every count, Tesla has sort all of this out for cars so they have obviously got a plan for trucks Wink No doubt one of the incentives is to make the energy a lot cheaper than filling up two large tanks with Diesel or hydrogen. People who own these new trucks will work around the new paradigm and adjust their business model accordingly in exchange for saving bucket loads on their energy and service requirements Wink

Requiring lots of energy !! May as well charge up batteries with that energy

"33.70 kWh has 100% of the energy of one gallon of gasoline."

The 14 kWh powerwall is listed as 120kg, so about 2.5 powerwalls per gallon of gasoline.

Lee disgraces itself again. Not all the energy in petrol is converted into kinetic energy by car engines. In fact it is less than 20% conversion if all driving conditions are averaged in.

Whereas the conversion efficiency from a battery is in the order of 90% in tems of energy output as a percentage of energy input by charging.

and the total well to wheels efficiency of petroleum is woeful once you extract it from crude oil  from the ground, refine it and transport it across the world using polluting diesel ships and trucks etc etc It's terribly inefficient whereas the sun shines in everyone's backyard and transferring electrical energy across wires is infinitely more efficient than transporting fossil fools in trucks !!

Refueling is the only thing that matters when it comes to long distance truck haulage as is the case here.

Refuel in minutes at stations regularly located though out the country of refuel in hours.

Look this is just another bout of nails fisting himself, nothing to see here.

You evidently did not read the post which stated a 1,200 mile range.

Power is supplied from fuel cell charging batteries.

You'd know all about fisting.

People and businesses want to pay as little as possible for energy so renewable energy is the answer. Seeing that no driver drives a truck for 24 hours a day there is perfect opportunity to recharge it during its off road time. How do you think the Tindo electric bus service work in Adelaide ??

Exchange batteries are probably the way to go for electric vehicles, probably quicker that filling a 300 litre fuel tank.

I am in favour of electric vehicles and I am sure the technology will keep improving.

But I have no illusions of them being cheaper that petrol or diesel vehicles.
The government will tax the road you drive on if they cant tax the fuel, they will tax the tyres, whatever it takes they will milk you.

You are utterly clueless aren't you?

How much do you thinks it costs to have a truck barely halfway through its journey stood down in the middle of bumfkk nowhere while getting 'cheap energy'?

The buses leave the depot and return to the depot the same day, long haul trucking does not work like that you fkking dolt.
