Young conservative men and the women they fear
May 2nd, 2017 at 3:29pm

The conservative young men who need a trigger warning when women are around

Students who express conservative views no longer feel "safe" on our nations' campuses. They frequently self-censor their opinions and have trouble finding forums in which they can freely express their ideas; you know, the kind of forums where they can really be themselves away from those pesky socialists, multiculturalists and… er… um women.

That, at any rate, is the lesson to be drawn from the revelation that University of Melbourne Liberal Club president Xavier Boffa wrote to a woman, saying he wanted to invite her to an event but hadn't because "a couple of the guys were a bit uncomfortable about inviting a chick".

This is rich coming from a political movement – and their cheerleaders in the media – who not only mock women for wanting "safe spaces" on campus, but expend petabytes of data complaining that the use of trigger warnings is "political correctness gone mad".

But if the future leaders of the Liberal Party aren't robust enough to share space with "chicks", perhaps Liberal Club events should now come with their own trigger warning for young male members: "Women Present".

You have to wonder what was going to be said at the men's-only meeting that so concerned Mr Boffa, who also works for Victorian state shadow attorney-general John Pesutto. It must have been pretty bad if Mr Boffa felt he needed to bounce members of his own party.

The Young Liberal movement has of course attempted to distance itself from the whole affair, trying to present it as a mere blip. Blake Young, vice-president of the Australian Liberal Students Federation, said Boffa's comment was "rubbish" and didn't represent views in the wider movement.

But the problem for today's young conservatives is that these things keep happening with troubling regularity.

In 2014, as Fairfax reported on Sunday, Facebook posts surfaced of University of Melbourne Liberal Club members describing women as "sluts" and Muslims as "degenerates".

The then Club treasurer Stefan Eracleous described Germaine Greer as a "lying f---ing cum guzzling slut … and a union member" and went on to claim that she's an unmarried atheist who doesn't have children.

And it's not just Young Liberals at the University of Melbourne who are unable to disguise their hateful views. Also in 2014, the then vice-president of Swinburne University Liberal Club Tim Dark was forced to resign after posting derogatory comments about gay people, questioning the gender of "butchy lesbians" and claiming that the possibility of gay marriage is "ruining" the social fabric of Australia.

The regressive attitudes don't stop at women and homosexuals. In March this year, Kurt Tucker resigned as President of the University of Queensland Liberal National Club, after letting slip that had he been alive in 1930s Germany, he'd have been a Nazi.

"I openly accept I would be a Nazi Party member if this was 30s Germany, despite obviously opposing a lot of their core ideology," he wrote on Facebook. "I'm political, and to succeed in politics, public service military or even industry, you had to be a NSDAP member."

Mr Tucker later retracted the statements, saying "on reflection" he was "totally wrong".

When you string enough blips together you start to get a pattern; a very ugly pattern of young men spewing racism, sexism, xenophobia and homophobia and yearning for safe patriarchal spaces where the targets of their bigotry are excluded.

You could put it down to the Trump effect but, as the record above shows, young Australian conservatives have been expressing such views for a while now.

One explanation is that these men are having trouble reconciling the contradiction that lies at the heart of modern conservative politics. On one hand, they're advocating upending the economy, and on the other hand, pretending that everything and everyone should carry on as before.

The modern conservative fantasy is that you can free the market, globalise the economy and shift to a service-based economy; yet the social contract based around the white patriarchal family middle-class existence will remain unchanged.

In such circumstances, it's a tad difficult to maintain the notion that white heterosexual blokes are the natural centre of the social and economic universe.

For some of these young men, university is possibly the first time they've realised that what they thought were the fixed certainties of social and economic life turned out to be, well, not as fixed as they had been led to believe.

Faced with any ambiguity about their own status in a fast-shifting world, young men who assumed they would one day be the masters of the universe cling to a fundamentalist form of masculinity on steroids.

To pass in this world and demonstrate their credentials, they perform a regressive masculinity: loathing women, LGBTI people and non-westerners. It's a desperate attempt to impose a fixed point of identity in a world to which they are clearly having difficulties adjusting.

Or perhaps that's overcomplicating matters. Maybe these young conservatives just express these views because doing so works for them.

Take Tim Dark, who was forced to resign in disgrace over sexist and homophobic comments from the Swinburne Liberal Club in 2014. Clearly it didn't dent his political capital. He's currently a councillor for the Greater Dandenong Council after being elected last year.

I don't think he's being racist necessarily,he's just indicating that  he is a sheep.

In a time of universal deceit — telling the truth is a revolutionary act.

No evidence whatsoever it can be attributed to George Orwell or Eric Arthur Blair (in fact the same guy)

Haha i remember this guy. His wife wrote an article about how she will never leave their daughter alone with him, in case he molests her.

Looking at him, I can't say I disagree with that:

a guy who is on his purpose in life is most certainly not afraid of women.

women "test" men all the time to see if they are the real deal.

are they grounded in their own confident cocky and self amused behaviour   OR  is this a sham, are they shakey.

a woman needs to know if the behaviour is real or an act.

and most guys (conservative or not) simply have NOT gone on the journey to become grounded confident and congruent in their behaviours.

and when a woman tests them, they apologise, they back pedal, they supplicate and she is repulsed by the fact that they, well, dont have a spine.

and these guys start to get approach anxiety around women and tend to resort to porn or "settle ' for some chick who will putz shame them and maybe let them hang around as a provider male.

guys who truly "get' women are very few and far between.

guys who feel free to be themselves and are 100 % authentic are very rare.

modern group think and modern social conditioning gives guys all the wrong messages about how to act.

Self-censoring may have more to do with wanting to pass assessments.
I self-censor regularly, solely to keep my job

Leftist sloganeering at its best. Full of manufactured abusive-laden terms in an attempt appear morally and intellectually superior. Wtf is wrong with being white, having a family and being middle class? This the left's Achilles heel. They won't garner votes or support by pissing on the majority. They can only get into power through unelected bureaucracies and then by continuing to stack those bureaucracies with fellow 'progressives'.

It's probably that they're disgusted with the identity politics on campus, like all normal people are.

Leftards use these groups to appear moral and intellectually superior. They don't give one sh*t about these groups. They're only tools or objects to snub their noses at the majority and to work their way into public institutions.

This is just another way to emasculate the nation.

Making men and women clones.

lowering males to a role of subservience and women to the role of master.

But many males are ignoring the trend.

they don't want to wear dresses, speak softly, bow and scrape to the great PC movement.

These are the men that have REAL women who they love and are in turn loved.

If women don't want to be offended, don't come near REAL men, because we offend.
We don't give a fig about PC or equal rights.
If a woman can do the job, great, join in we accept you.
But if you cant do the job, don't pull the PC hat out of the bag to keep your job, because that is what is happening out there.

The best women managers I work with are good at their job and give as good at they take.

But I have seen many who, because they are incapable, pull the old
"OFFENDED" GAME AND GET PROMOTED OR EASED OUT OF THE COMPANY.

If women want to be men and play men's games, we don't care, but don't try and make us women, because we aint.

Have you noticed the number of conservative women in the LNP?

Tell me would it be a correct assumption to say they breed? Like more little conservatives? Roll Eyes

This is just another monotonous mothra man baiting (or is that hating?) thread.

"WELL YOU CANT HAVE CHILDREN WITHOUT US, BUT WE ARE WORKING ON HAVING CHILDREN WITHOUT YOU"

When they say that I shout

"BREEDING MACHINE"

Man-baiting?

What is it about the bahaviour of the men in this thread that makes you feel "baited" by having your attention drawn to them by a woman?
