1st of May, "Day of Terror"

1st May 2017, people around the world will remember "The Day of Terror" when Indonesia first occupied West Papua on 1st May 1963 and began the genocide of the West Papuan people.
Watch an listen to what the first of May means to the people of West Papua in their own words...
Demonstrations are taking place across the world to show Indonesia that the people of West Papua want to be free and Independent and not suffer under Indonesian colonialism anymore.

If you can't be a good example, you have to be a horrible warning.

not sure Indonesia gives a stuff what the rest of the world thinks of them...

it id of course one way of expressing how you feel about something like this.. We take freedom of the press and speech  as being part of normal life....

my immediate thoughts are..

what are they afraid of or what are they covering up...???..

will there be protests here in Canberra...  I cant go already booked  but if there is a petition I will be glad to sign it...

Australia and the world should hang it's heading shame over not doing enough.

Australia can't tackle this one on it's own tho. Even over East Timor, thing could have gotten hot between Indo and Aus.

What's the problem with multiculturalism?

And is it so bad when millions of Brits want to remain with the European Union and be dictated to by continental foreigners?

And isn't around half the Australian population always being governed by a party they didn't vote for?

The West Papuan people have never been so lucky as they are now. It's the same with our abos.

Something tells me you'd have a different perspective if half of Australia was occupied by Indonesia.

You could always go back to the Motherland, I suppose.

Don't you know that Indonesia is such a friend of Australia's that we have joint military exercises with them to make sure their rank-and-file and their officers are fully up to speed if they should decide to invade us?

Come on!!

What's this "hang our heads in shame" nonsense?

Our politicians and military personnel have for years been making sure that Indonesia has a crash-hot military competence that we can be proud of.

And we send them millions each year in Foreign Aid to make sure they can afford to buy the latest and best in military hardware every bit the equal of ours.

We need our own nuclear missiles, would we get knocked back if we decided to do so, and having so much uranium we could make plenty.

This is one subject that I will totally agree with you on Mothra.

It is a 2 party political shame

That is that consecutive Australian govts both Lib & Lab & certain politicians from both

has & have been responsible for this occurring in the first place & it's continuation for the last 54 years.

No use using glib sarcasm on this matter Herbie it's out & out a national shame.

We weren't afraid to upset the Indonesians over East Timor. However the rise of Islam in Indonesian politics would probably make it a bit riskier today. I think it will happen eventually though.
