Exacting tribute
Apr 28th, 2017 at 6:06am

In centuries gone by many nations & empires exacted tribute from enemies in return for not invading and laying waste to their territories. The Romans and other ancient regimes did it.

Today we hope the west has moved beyond the ancient and medieval. But the Turkish Muslim Caliphate has relearned the tactics of the past.

This year the EU will pay the final instalment of €3 billion in tribute in the hope that Turkey will withhold its horde of invaders to further lay waste to Europe.

But is Caliph Erdogan ever to be trusted.

Know the enemies of a civil society by their public behaviour, by their fraudulent claim to be liberal-progressive, by their propensity to lie and, above all, by their attachment to authoritarianism.

Erdogan has been successful so far, but he sure knows how to make enemies.

He will eventually build himself a palace more resplendent than the Ottoman Sultans, equipped with a Treasury where he can store his tribute over the years. It will have to be in gold & silver & precious jewels of course.
