I have often wondered how North Korea got into the mess that it did in the last 60 years. I managed to get a book on the subject "Target North Korea", but I have not read it all. I seriously need to read up on recent Middle Eastern and North Korean history.

Could tensions turn into war in North Korea?

http://edition.cnn.com/2017/04/26/asia/north-korea-chance-of-war/index.html

(CNN)US warships and submarines are on the move. North Korea has carried out its largest ever live-fire drill. Washington and Pyongyang are trading inflammatory rhetoric on a weekly basis.
With all of this, it's hard to know if war is actually imminent or if these are the growing pains of US President Donald Trump's new administration figuring out how to deal with North Korea's leader, Kim Jong Un.
Daily reports of the fragile situation fuel worries that war is imminent. But, has it really reached a point of no return?

It's basically the eastern version of Germany. After WWII, the Russians got the north and made it a communist paradise. The US turned the south into a liberal democracy. The result was pretty much inevitable.

Great.  Let them get on with it without us getting in the way.

NORTH Korea has released alarming photographs of its artillery drill this week that depict the rogue state showing off its considerable firepower.

In a defiant response, South Korea has announced that key parts of a US missile defence system have been installed to defend itself from any provocation from the North.

Pyongyang conducted its “largest ever” military demonstration near the eastern coastal town of Wonsan on Tuesday to mark the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Korean People’s Army.

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un supervised the display and gave the order to start the fire demonstration, according the state-funded Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

The display included 300 “large-calibre” self-propelled guns lining up along a beach and firing all at once.

The drill was designed to simulate an attack on enemy warships and also involved submarines firing torpedoes and low-flying jets dropping bombs.

KCNA, which is responsible for distributing Pyongyang propaganda, said Mr Kim was pleased with the display.

“Watching the exciting scenery, he praised the seamen of submarines and pilots for hitting targets every time,” the agency wrote.

“The brave artillerymen mercilessly and satisfactorily hit the targets and the gunshots were very correct, he said, adding that they showed well the volley of gunfire of our a-match-for-a-hundred artillery force giving merciless punishment to the hostile forces.”

Who gives a flying ferk what goes on in that Sovereign State?  It is none of our business, and the sooner we understand that it is not our place to bully other Countries with threats of military intervention the safer this World will be.

What right does America have to play any part if their plans for their Country?  What right does the West have to tell other Sovereign States what toys they are allowed to have in their play pen?  Uncle Sam has his, we have ours, so why can't everyone else?

I see that nobody has been able to answer your questions yet.

Interesting.

.. and they threatened to loose that on urban areas such as Seoul, filled with civilians... gutless twerps.  Fat Boy has declared his intent to use total war - no more reason need be found to clobber the d1ck.

What a pity ten echelons of B-52s heavily escorted, didn't carpet bomb that beach.....

Some of us have been busy....

One answer - what right does a sovereign nation have to even suggest it might hit Darwin?

I don't see any aggressive act in demanding that a state curtail its weapons programs backed up by threats - I see a deliberate aggressive act in stating the near-intent to attack a nation far removed in locality and which has done nothing to that state.

If Fat Boy hit Darwin Hong, the Chinese would obliterate him for us.... and long overdue.

Because they can.  Simple statement of fact.

Just like it is fact that the USA Bully Boy is positioning his toys on the doorstep of North Korea to let them know he can whack them.

If you can manage to not take a 'side' in all this, like I have, you might see it differently.

Mind you....if that fat dumbarse kid did actually lift an aggressive hand, I'd be the first to nuke his sorry arse.

When the dominant power structure is threatened then an intervention becomes necessary. The USA intervening unnecessarily does no one, especially America, any good. But the USA retreating back into its pre-WWI isolationism does no one any good either ... and that was what Trump was promising his supporters just a short time ago - "America First" was his slogan.

This sounds a lot like Brians "we have no right or even ability to criticise other countries and religions".

Aussie would you really sacrifice South Korea to this idiotic notion of justice?
