Bus driver charged with sexually assaulting special-needs student

The driver of a bus for students with special needs has been charged with sexually assaulting one of his teenage passengers in Sydney's south-west, police say.

Police will allege in court that the 51-year-old man sexually and indecently assaulted the schoolgirl when they were alone on the bus earlier this year.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Child Abuse Squad launched an investigation into the bus driver after receiving a report that the girl had been assaulted.

On Monday night, detectives executed a search warrant at a house in Bass Hill and seized a bus that will be forensically examined.

The 51-year-old man was arrested at the house and taken to Bankstown Police Station, where he was charged with aggravated sexual assault, and two counts of aggravated indecent assault (victim under 16 and under authority).

The man was refused police bail, and is due to face Bankstown Local Court on Tuesday.

A taxi driver who fled to India a day after he raped a female passenger and indecently assaulted another in Perth has been jailed for five-and-a-half years.

Simardeep Singh, 31, was a Swan Taxis driver in January 2011 when he picked up a 20-year-old woman and during the journey rubbed her leg and asked her questions about her sex life.

-A Brisbane taxi driver will spend two months behind bars after he sexually assaulted a drunk teenage passenger in his cab last year.

The 18-year-old girl's ordeal was revealed in Brisbane District Court this morning, where taxi driver Amit Verma, 25, was sentenced to eight months jail, to be suspended after two months, after he pleaded guilty to three counts of sexual assault.

The court was told Verma collected the girl from Brisbane's CBD about 10.30pm on October 4 last year.

While driving, Verma reached back to the rear passenger seat where the girl was sitting and touched her right thigh.

The court was told, images taken from a CCTV camera inside the taxi showed Verma reaching back to the rear passenger seat, but Verma then covered the camera.

A short time later, Verma stopped the cab on the side of the road and pursued the teen after she tried to flee.
He then kissed the girl on the lips and neck, fondled her breasts and attempted to touch her vagina.

Crown prosecutor Rob Glenday said the girl became quite frightened in her position, but tried to humour Verma and engaged in some conversation with him, before he agreed to drive her home.

At some stage on the journey, the girl gave Verma her mobile phone number.

The girl returned to the car, this time sitting in the front seat.

However, Verma continued with the assault and continuously tried to place the girl's hand over his erect penis inside in pants.
