Russia metro explosion: Suspect identified

By Euan McKirdy, Tim Lister and Emma Burrows, CNN

Updated 0743 GMT (1543 HKT) April 4, 2017

Moscow (CNN)The suspect in Monday's train explosion in St. Petersburg, Russia, which killed 11 people and injured dozens, has been identified by Kyrgyz security services, according to several news agencies.
The suspect, named as Akbarjon Djalilov, is a Kyrgyzstan national.
Here are the latest developments:

The explosion took place between the Sennaya Ploshchad and Tekhnologichesky Institut stations.
The two city center stations have been reopened.
A three-day mourning period has started.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack, which led to the shutdown of the city's metro system.
11 people were killed and 51 people were injured in attack, according to CNN affiliate RBC.
Four of the injured are in critical condition, Health Minister Veronika Skvortsova said, according to Tass.
According to Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Russian President Vladimir Putin held a meeting with security and law-enforcement services on Monday where he was informed about preliminary results of the investigation over the metro blast, state-run Tass news agency reported.
Putin, who had been in St. Petersburg earlier in the day, laid roses at one of the memorials Tuesday.
US President Donald Trump spoke briefly with Putin on Monday, expressing his condolences in the wake of the terror attack and offering assistance in the investigation.

Opinion: The likely culprits behind the St. Petersburg blast
A second, larger device was found and defused at another station, Russia's Anti-Terrorism Committee said.
That device, hidden in a fire extinguisher, was larger than the one that went off, according to state media reports quoting law enforcement. It carried about a kilogram of TNT, the reports said.

“President Trump offered the full support of the United States government in responding to the attack and bringing those responsible to justice,” a White House statement said. “Trump and President Putin agreed that terrorism must be decisively and quickly defeated.”

For many years, Russia suffered frequent terror attacks from Islamist groups based in the North Caucasus, including blasts on the Moscow metro in 2010. However, since a suicide bomber struck at Domodedovo airport in January 2011, attacks have largely been confined to the North Caucasus itself.

Since Russia entered the war in Syria in September 2015, a number of Islamic State propaganda outlets have said the country would be a target. In October 2015, a plane travelling from Sharm el-Sheikh in Egypt to St Petersburg crashed, apparently after an explosive device was detonated on board. Isis claimed responsibility.

I watched a doco on the Russians in Afghanistan Herb. The Russians were kicking Mujahideen butt  with their attack helicopters flying at low altitude. So the yanks gave the Mujahideen stinger missiles and the Russians started to losing helicopters. It turned the whole tide of the war. And one of the reasons the American's did that was a get square for the Russians supplying the North Vietnamese. Dear oh dear.

Ah. It was Payback time. And around and around we go, like gregg with one of his dancing partners here. Back and forth, back and forth. "Yes you did!" .. "No I didn't!" .. "Yes you did!" .. "No I didn't!" ..

I wonder if it's possible for Mothra to now type out on her keyboard for our viewing pleasure the words of one of the following :-

1. 'Yes - it was Muslims again'.

2. 'It wasn't a No Name brand generic terrorist who committed this act as I had tried to peddled to my audience here, but a genuine, Koran-sponsored, fully-accountable Muslim from regional Russia'.

3. 'I apologise for my earlier attempt at misdirection away from any such notion that this could be, yet again, Activist Islam on the rampage again'.
