Booby said it was unusual. So, you disagree then.?

Yes. But as i said the periodicity is not metronomic. They vary in length.

Perhaps you can define usual. Wink

I'm just giving you what passes for data; without all the uncertainties of course.

The story is what you make of the data.Wink

"Who could possibly have been measuring Global Mean Temperature (GMT) so accurately (±0.14°C) in 1880?"

"As one would expect, reliable data sets from the late 19th are sparse.

"How then to calculate GMT from such sparse data, which happens to be concentrated in North America and Europe?  Well the solution is not to calculate GMT from contemporary 1880 data but to reconstruct GMT by identifying correlations among modern geographic temperature data distributions and then projecting these same correlations backward onto the support of the relatively sparse empirical data available in earlier times."

"Thus, "climate change" alarmism is based on two mathematical models: 1) a statistical model that "reconstructs" historical data using modern correlations projected backward for 100 years onto the thin support of sparse empirical data sets available then; and 2) a "climate model" that uses this very same reconstructed historical data as key input data to project climate forward for the next 100 years."

http://www.americanthinker.com/2007/09/one_more_reason_to_distrust_gl.html#ixzz4...

So that "data" from 1880 isn't data but a fabrication.

We have a couple not very bright members saying we are in a Little Ice Age because, uh, sunspots. This is despite the sun being quiescent and the globe still heating up.

We have plain old deniers like Lees and Greg.

We have those who read the science and can see AGW in action.

Doubtless other views.

So, I will set up a poll, as fair as I can make it, no meaningless choices etc.

Please vote and discuss why you voted as you did.

I'm not a denier: I'm completely open-minded when it comes to AGW (AGW disciples are closed-minded).

So far, though, there's not enough credible, reliable evidence to support the hypothesis.

If that changes in the future, I'm willing to look at the new data.

And, having a poll on AGW is hilarious.

Science isn't about winning popularity contests.

You said it yourself earlier Booby.  This period of warming is unusual.
Normally 10,000 yrs , but here we are, according to you at 12,000 yrs.

So, the current warming trend has already exceeded normality (according to you).
By 2000 years.

Golly gosh, I wonder what is different this time. Hmm?
What could it be?
Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

You do know it is not a metronomic 10,000 years; don't you. It varies out to 20,000 years. So it is not unprecedented.

"These warm periods, called interglacial periods, appear to last approximately 15,000 to 20,000 years before regressing back to a cold ice age climate. At year 18,000 and counting our current interglacial vacation from the Ice Age is much nearer its end than its beginning."

http://www.geocraft.com/WVFossils/ice_ages.html

The figures are not exact.

So is it different this time?

Hi lee,
Yes - so we are right at the end of the interglacial period.
The scary part is that a full ice age can hit in only 3 years.
Scientists in the Antarctic have evidence of that from ice drilling cores.

I posted the evidence once on the mini ice age thread.

You have never, ever posted “evidence” in the ridiculous LIA thread. Stupid, lying videos yes, evidence no.

If “scientists in the Antarctic” reckon a full blown Ice Age can be here in three years there would be papers you can find (or find the abstracts anyway.) So, there you go, Sir Booby the Louse, go find some papers/abstracts showing that Ice Ages can arise in 3 years.

Might also see what 40% more CO2 in the atmosphere than for several million years would do to an Ice Age.

Away you go.

Have heard of it now else I could not have mentioned it. Really, Liar Lees, do apply some elementary logic to your babblings.
