No, Mistie, Obama declined to bomb Mosul to avoid the massive civilian casualties Trump has just inflicted.

This was not "collateral damage". The US has known about the civilian population in Mosul and ISIS' use of human shields for years. We've had this debate here on this site. 

Obama believed in the Rules of Engagement - something Trump questioned the need for during the campaign. The people of Mosul have just seen how much power a US president has, and what Trump is prepared to do to get ISIS.

The Iraqi military, by contrast, has been avoiding these sort of mortar and air strikes themselves. They've been making slow progress against ISIS.

Trump doesn't want to wait. He needs a favourable headline now. Now we know what sort of decisions Trump is capable of making. Trump is willing to abandon the Rules of Engagement and cause massive civilian death.

Strange. He hasn't Tweeted about it yet either.

A limey publication/monitoring group Airwars has reported that the death toll from US air strikes in Iraq and Syria nearly quadrupled in the month of March as compared to the last full month before Donald Trump entered the White House. Reported civilian deaths jumped from 465 in December 2016 to 1,754 in March 2017, a rise of 277 percent.

Odd that all those American bombing has killed far more innocent civilians in Iraq, including children, than reportedly died in last week’s alleged chemical attack in Syria. What's not so odd is how this study has gone virtually without mention in the American capitalist corporate-controlled media.
