Re the Ordovician/Silurian etc: how long ago was that, Ajax? What life was about, what continents and what was the state of the sun?

The world IS warming.

There is one species I can think of that has survived unchanged since precambrian times. We do have some here. Apart from that, a trilobite does not look much like a crab, a squid or octopus does not look much like a bellamite (aka Belemnoids ) or ammonite and they aren’t too far apart in time. No fish today looks like Ostracoderms.

Two supercontinents formed and broke apart in all that time.

As the earth heats the mixture of gases that is the atmosphere will also heat, so will the seas.
