Trump supporters the most loyal
Mar 6th, 2017 at 8:59pm

Donald Trump supporters want to vote for him even if he lies, study finds

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-03-02/trump-supporters-will-still-vote-for-him-even-if-he-lies/8320100

Supporters of US President Donald Trump are more likely to believe what he says, and even after they are shown it is not true, they still want to vote for him, research has shown.

The University of Western Australia study was undertaken by researcher Briony Swire-Thompson and School of Psychological Science associate professor Ullrich Ecker in late 2015 as the US election campaign was ratcheting up in intensity and rhetoric.

Researchers gave more than 2,500 Republican and Democrat participants a selection of Mr Trump's statements and asked whether they believed the statements, some attributed to him, others not.

"If they knew the information was from Trump, Republican supporters believed the information more and the opposite was true for Democrats, as soon as they heard it was from Trump, it didn't matter if it was true or false," he said.

He said when the subjects were told the information was fake, it had some effect, but did not really change their voting intention.

The researchers were also surprised Trump supporters became confused about what was true or false, even after being told.

"As soon as the information was associated with Trump, people got confused and after a week or so they had a hard time remembering what was true or false," he said.

Fed up with normal politicians

Mr Ecker said many people were "fed up" with politicians and did not want politicians to "tiptoe" around issues, but it meant vulnerable people might be exploited.

"People in desperate situations, who are feeling left behind and neglected by the existing system, they become vulnerable to leaders who may not have their best issues at heart," he said.

"If people feel they are being left behind and are having trouble putting food on the table, they long for strong leaders and then fall for [those] leaders.

"We're kind of used to politicians cherry-picking and twisting the truth a little bit, but this was a new quality, not only in the US but also in the UK, politicians were saying outright false things, and getting away with it."

Social media echo chamber?

Mr Ecker said the ubiquity of social media allowed people to exist in political "echo chambers", and their views and opinions were rarely challenged.

"The rise of social media means people can choose more readily what to believe because they can find support for whatever they want to believe if they go to the right place online," he said.

"People like Trump are using social media such as Twitter to speak their mind, they are using the people's language."

Mr Ecker said the rise of this type of discourse could be seen in Australia as well, with the popularity of One Nation and non-traditional politicians.

"The mining boom has ended, people are unhappy and unemployed," he said.

"People in that situation are vulnerable to promises and of people getting up and saying 'it is the fault of this group."

Of course they are. Because they don't vote for Trump the man, they vote for the ideal they think he represents. Thus it doesn't matter what Trump does - the lies, the hypocricy, the sheer incompetency - not even on their radar. They simply don't care. In fact the more Trump unhinges, the more they can simply dismiss it as yet more leftist conspiracy against him.

Just look at the fanboys on this site - their blind allegiance is really something.

The phenomenon of 'Trump' is a symptom of American society in decline.

'Trumpists' don't support him in spite of his psychological disorder, lies, hypocrisy and sheer incompetency... They support him because of them.

the decline started long before trump. it's been in decline at least since the radicals of the 1960-70s. the trump phenomenon is a fightback against this decline. whether it'll be successful is another question.

People at a low ebb will believe not so much in anything from anyone, but from a certain personality type.

Like L Ron Hubbard before him, there are three aspects to Trump that make him capable of galvanising a movement such as we've seen with Trump supporters in a society as fearful of the future as the US... He's destructive, charismatic and rich.

L Ron Hubbard ended his days broken and in hiding as his narcissism and paranoia ate him from the inside out. Trump is heading down the same road.

I'm not sure what we're supposed to take away from this.

That we shouldn't vote for the candidate that appeals to us?

That would seem to be it...but then I remembered - I am not supposed to take anything from this.  This was not written for me, this was written as confirmation-bias fodder for the drones.

There's plenty of that these days, so eat up.

Yawn.

It's gone past "fake news", Now it's fake indignation from ordinary people.

As evil as these nice people are, you've gotta marvel at the advances they've made in propaganda technology.

It isn't so clear cut. The Trump movement may lead to improvements in some area, in others, it won't because it can't - healthcare, for example.

60 million people voted for Trump, not because they believed him or trusted him but simply because he was a Republican candidate and they put political allegiance above intelligence, morality and patriotism.

When ideology trumps all else then trouble like this occurs.

If only it were that easy...

I was listening to a BBC report yesterday, where the reporters asked Trump supporters at a rally what they would think of Trump if most of what he said turned out to be lies... Most, apparently, just shrugged their shoulders.

While I would still oppose the notion, it does question whether or not there should be some threshold or qualification for being allowed to vote. Do you think if an IQ minimum was introduced trump would have lost 20 million votes immediately?

You can blame the republican party for allowing this utter fool to get there. They had the power to change it and now they effectively have the power to remove him.

It's only a matter of time before Trump is impeached... or committed.

We have this in our Electoral Act:

"A person who:

                     (a)  by reason of being of unsound mind, is incapable of understanding the nature and significance of enrolment and voting; or

                     (b)  has been convicted of treason or treachery and has not been pardoned;

is not entitled to have his or her name placed or retained on any Roll or to vote at any Senate election or House of Representatives election."

The US needs something similar.

If they already have it, how did Trump supporters manage to cast a vote?

OP......
"Donald Trump supporters want to vote for him even if he lies, study finds"

Donald Trump as pres., i think, could be compared to my current choice of ISP, given the available choices open to me.

What was 'on offer' was my current BigPuddle account [using a wireless Netgear device]        vs.        the 'delights' of a dialup account.

i.e.
At least Donald Trump        IS NOT       my old dial-up account [with some extinct bird] !!!

The choice of Americans to elect a man like Donald Trump as POTUS may not be ideal,
but nobody can deny that Donald Trump has been accepted by many Americans as being x 10 better than any of the current, traditional political alternatives.

Notwithstanding his political critics, and his own personality flaws,     Donald Trump succeeded in the contest,     and he was lawfully elected by the citizens of the USA, to be POTUS.

Which goes to show, how irrational many 'smart' people can be.

Donald Trump was chosen, imo, because he was/is         recognised by many, as being something completely different from the traditional career politician in the US.

i.e.
When incumbent politicians disappoint/betray us,      don't continue to vote for them.

Because it only 'encourages' them!

Thats the 'molotov coctail' theory (that trumpists simply want to throw a molotov coctail into the establishment - and to hell with the consequences). But it can only hold so long as Trump is seen to be 'sticking it' to the establishment and causing a raucous. But once that veneer wears off and he starts to be exposed as just another establishment shill (which I believe is already happening), then cognitive dissonance amongst his fanboys must take over. Or in other words, the denial phase.

ANYONE who voted for Trump is a clearly stupid person. AFter all, nothing he has done since has been any different to what he has done before. He was a pathological lying conspiracy nutbag a long time ago. So yes, the stupid people found an even stupider person to vote for.

The pride of the midwit is what helps to make propaganda so effective.

Theyre just smart enough to recite buzzwords, but not smart enough to see the principles and processes behind them.  The pride comes in becayse they falsely believe that gheyre too clever for it to work on them, that it only works on idiots.  This reveals theit ignorance, as a simple glance at a bellcurve distribution would demonstrate that for it to be effective, it has to target the mainstream, not the fringes.

In a nutshell, the very smart and the very dumb have similar views in practice, while the midwits do what theyre told, justifying it by looking to the left of them on the curve and sneering at the idiots, but never daring to look to their right.

No, not by everyone - by midwits.  Those in the propaganda sweet spot of iq 95-115.

But why would i value what theyre saying?  Do you value the political opinions of people with down syndrome?

surveys confirmed the IQ of the average vocal Trump supporter to be just 89. Peer-reviewed studies show that trump supporters dont care for truth - hardly a moral or ethical position. The average trump supporter is the least educated in the country. One disputed study even claimed that Trump supporters had 20% less teeth than regular people. Even more damning was the revelation that almost NO vocal trump supporters lived without significant welfare. Also, the rate of racism about the most vocal supporters exceeded 80%

so why should anyone even grant these intellectual, moral and ethical retards the vote, nevermind an audience.

Its called the tyranny if the masses, or the tragedy of thr commons.  For what its worth, i think universal suffrage was a terrible mistake, but so would basing voting rights on a single factor such as IQ.

Just imagine if every voter fell in the sweet spot, and how easily and extensively we could be manipulated.

surveys confirmed the IQ of the average vocal Trump supporter to be just 89.

Oh, I don't know, G. Mr Trump can stretch it out for a bit longer, shurely.

Just keep applying for a ban on Muslims. Keep planning the Mexican wall. Keep Tweeting about making Amerika great again.

Okay, the last one might wear a bit thin, but the longer Mr Trump keeps promising to ban the tinted races, his followers will suspend their disbelief indefinitely.

ABSOLUTELY. I have more qualifications, better mental health and Ive never been bankrupt or accused of sexual assault by women. I have a far superior moral positioning and it is very clear that Trump possesses a very average IQ.  I even have bigger hands.

And yes, I am working on my 7th and been invited to join a new institute working on new theories of identity disorders and their relationship to paraphilias.  I doubt most here could even understand the previous sentence.

What are you lefties going to do if he does a great job?

Which lefties, Homo?
People like you who think they know what's going to happen 3+ years into the future.

Oh, I see. You mean soothsayers.

We don't need to go through the entrails to know Mr Trump will still be promising all sorts of tempting bans, kills and cesteretions in 3+ years, Homo.

And we don't need the yarrow sticks to know you'll be cheering every Tweet, speech and botched plan.

You will make Amerika great again, no?
Name one PM or president that has made promises never kept Sweetass. Why is it so different now?

Gee, that's a hard one, Homo. I think the difference here is that you're promoting an Amerikan PM or president.

You usually stick with the Liberal/National Australian ones.

Aussie Aussie Aussie, no?
I'm just exposing your bias Karnal. Promises have somehow become important in your political thinking. We will never have a carbon tax hey?? Now you've gone one step further and foreseeing broken promises???

You will make Amerika great again, no worries.
