To be brutally honest, shame on labor for doing this - it's nothing more than a political stunt and I doubt if their feelings are genuine.   Having said that, if it takes political intervention to stop this, shame on the coalition for not introducing it.   It's very sad for all of us if people's lives are reduced to political bargaining pawns to inflate politicians egos and ideas of self importance

You are likely partially correct however sometimes the ends justify the means and this need to be stopped.

Labor would have won the 2016 election had the put more effort into protecting penalty rates instead of focusing so much on medicare, although they were right they could not really prove the case.

Medicare was in someway under attack.  I think no reasonable person thought that penalty rate cut would get through and that it was a hypothetical exercise.  If they knew it would under a coalition government, you can bet the election would have gone another way.

The threat to penalty rates has been taken very seriously by shift workers for about half a decade now looking at the number of marginal electorates with high shift worker membership won by the Libs shows that this issue was  clearly a game changer.

It was Labor incompetence that Lost them the 2016 election pure and simple, the were up against a failed government with a dreadful economic record and a do nothing leader who had replaced an almost extreme right nutter, a government that was unable to pass one budget in 3 years.

They just had the measures from their 2014 budget rejected again in the omnibus bill - it is 2017. These dopes are just dumb enough to keep trying, hey guys you are pushing shite up hill, the horse is at the wrong end of the cart. You can just see these two Abbott and Turnbull fronting up in there Zimmer frames trying for the 105th time to get their 2014 budget measures passed in 2045.

Will they ever wake up and realise that hey there is a problem with this rubbish we are peddling ?
