Mechanic is definitely in the first category.
I won't pretend that Trump has does anything to earn my support, mostly the opposite. He drew a line in the sand of what was unacceptable for a candidate when it comes to the Oval Office during the campaign when facing off against Clinton, but he's crossed that line by leaps and bounds assuming he was ever on the other side of it to begin with, since taking office.
Let's look at what that actually means. By his own standards he's unfit for office. Let that sink in for a sec.
And that is even before taking into account his pre-political life. He is one of the least deserving people of respect, unless you see Trump the man, or even Trump the President, as being the same as the character of "Trump" from The Apprentice, or the Trump from the Battle of the Billionaires in the WWE.
There is more to him, more to any man, than where they are at any given point in time. Their worth and their status is defined more by the path they've taken, not the destination they've found themselves at.
It says a lot that many who do business with Trump, only do it once. It says a lot that those who share the same sort of financial status as him (or at least the status he claims to have, which is a huge tell as to the real reason he doesn't want to release his tax returns, but I digress) with him distance themselves from him, unless they think they can exploit him to further their own gains.
And let's be clear, it doesn't seem hard given his thin skin. A well places blow to the ego while hinting that what ever outcome benefits you the most then pulling that trigger would be enough to make him squeal what ever song you want.
tl:dr, I don't support Trump, but rightfully so. To that, I'm also open to changing that should he earn that right.
But, that's irrelevant here. He's setting precedents that might be fine to his supporters while he's in charge, but imagine if Hillary was acting this way, or this was happening under Obama?
What happens when the next Democratic President starts blocking the media, openly lying to the people then attacking those that call them out for it or start using all the various tools of control that Trump is trying to setup?
The current Trump supporters will be furious, but it will be too late by then. Trump is lowering the bar far deeper than many thought possible, but it's not ringing alarm bells for his supporters, it's not even altering the needle on the dial, it's just being dismissed as fake news.
For those who don't support Trump, they're living this reality now. Trump supporters should take note of these peoples' outrage because once the tables are turned it'll be how they feel, but there will be nothing they can do then.
But instead, they're just attacking these people, talking about tissues, snowflakes, cucks, whatever insult they can think of. Little do they realise they're hurting themselves just as much, if not more by not only defending these actions by Trump, not only by supporting them, but attacking and dismissing any of the legitimate concerns people have.
It's uninformed, short sighted and idiotic.
Some things surpass left vs right, liberal vs conservative, reality vs Trump, this is one of those times.
The problem is, those who support Trump wholeheartedly are totally oblivious to this, be it willful ignorance, some sort of stupid sense of pride and stubbornness making them incapable of admitting a mistake with their devotion to Trump, or they may just be unable to comprehend the gravity of the situation.
Trump has the chance to be different from those who have been President before him and so far he is being different, but that's only because his supporters have decieded that because in their eyes he "not a politician" or not part of the "establishment" that a different set of rules apply to him. Any compromise on that would show weakness on their part.
Trump has made it clear what he thinks about weakness or not winning, so his supporters will never question him. It's like a feedback loop of idiocy.
But as for a different set of rules for him, that not be the case. He like those who came before him and especially those who come after him, should be held to a higher standard than their predecessors, not the other way around.
Trump has been a combo breaker in more ways than one, but none have been positive.
Big on Promises, short on the "hows" both in terms of delivery and goal posts to claim success or failure. He's playing out his Presidency as what the country can do for him, not the other way around.
It's scary that people can be so disenfranchised by those who've held the Oval Office before him that they're willing to let him tank the country for a chance at something different.
And now he wants to do that with even less accountability?
No flapping thanks.
