Oh goody....another "America" topic! In a Trade War with Mexico, Mexico has way more to lose than does the USA. If Americans just refused to buy 10% of their yearly average purchases of Mexican goods, Mexico would lose close to $20+ Billion in income. (Conservatively, America had a $6+ Billion trade deficit with Mexico in just 2016)
A Tariff on Mexican goods the magnitude many are talking about (+/- 30%) would cost way more than that to Mexico, so in the end it would probably make way more economic sense for Mexico to pay a mere few $$ billion for the WALL (quietly & secretly to save face), rather than see tariffs imposed, & Americans turn away from Mexican products. and if Mexico puts a similar tariff of 20% on american goods they will recoup that loss and then some PLUS some american companies will lose a lot of trade. Why are you so dumb to think that a trade war is one-way? Fact: America buys way more from Mexico, than Mexico buys from America.
Fact: Mexico has no fallback for a high percentage loss of trade with America, while America would just shrug Mexico off in comparison, & increase trade with Canada, & the many others wanting easier access into the 300,000,000 + American market. http://www.33sm.ml/smileys/cleanteeth09.gif
Who will Mexico sell to?
Us? ...... Iceland? ...... Norway? http://www.33sm.ml/smileys/skrewball004.gif http://www.33sm.ml/smileys/chuckle002.gifBTW.......a new Tariff, a wire transfer fee, on every single dollar that Mexican workers wire transfer to their families in Mexico.....which also fuels the Mexican economy.......might cause the Mexican government a bit of grief too. http://www.33sm.ml/smileys/BigToothSmile.gif
It's called economic leverage, the USA has it......Mexico doesn't.... you seem to think that there is never any negative or adverse consquences of such things. Trump obviously thinks the same way. A lot of automotive components come from Mexico and now... they will all be 20% more expensive. So are mexican built cars. You think the consumer is going to be thrilled with a sudden 10-20% increase in the cost of vehicles? and like it or not, Mexico is an enormous market for Amercain goods which with a 20% tariff would suddenly be cheaper to get from elsewhere. The point is that EVERYBODY loses. The fact that mexico might lose more will be no comfort to the hundreds of thousands of yanks who would lose ther jobs as a result. Trump plans on having General Motors, & Ford all reopen those factories.....still there in Michigan.....still capable of retooling....it's been in the negotiations way before the election, putting all Americans, especially minorities back to work in Michigan & Ohio making cars again.....making parts again.
Those plants down in Mexico....that the automotive industry made Mexico pay for......can be abandoned at any time at no great loss to GM & Ford.
The Mexicans will have state of the art plants, & no cars to make.
So, your Mexican WetBack Wet Dream just got messy fella!!
