I have had to catch dozens of Funnel Webs over the years and sent them to the University for milking and study.

A couple that I have caught were extraordinarily aggressive.  Ugh!!

are they the ones that live in the ground.

Yes they are ground dwellers.

No, they live in crevices, caves etc. and they love to roam around the houses and secrete themselves in shoes.

When disturbed they stand on their back legs and strike at you with deadly venom dripping from their fangs.

I hardly leave my little home after dark...but lately I have had reason to do so and have found a huge spider builds his/her web almost cross the front entrance... its in the same spot when ever I see it..its from the eaves  to the pole support for the timber slats that give me some respite from the sun its  about 5 feet across . and I can only see it if the outside warning light comes on..

in the morning its gone not a sign of it..

I would go mad if I walked into it..but its not the sort of thing one is looking for   its really above head level  but we know how far their web building can go..

does it mean getting the house sprayed??...I am not a scaredycat about spiders but this is rather BIG..

Orb spider........................ Cool

One spider I have never squish.

Leave it be it will catch flies and mossies.

The one you should be concerned about is the white tip.

It crawls into shoes and clothes, a young lass was bitten by one in her blouse around the base of the neck took her nearly 12 months to recover, if allergic can rot the skin.

Kids think its an ant...!!??

Trap door.

Close relative of the funnel web spiders and just as deadly.

Trapdoors in Australia are nearly harmless.

I have seen precisely zero funnel webs in caves.

Ajax - thanks. I had not heard of that one.

Amazing creatures, spiders.
Did they come from outer space?

Get those little bottles of peppermint oil. Pour into a spray bottle. Dilute it down to fill the bottle. Spray the areas of the house and around the places where the rain does not get to reach. The peppermint oil wards off the spiders from coming into your house or near the entrances.

I like to spray the walls of my house with peppermint oil after giving it a good clean over. The spiders have not invaded my living area ever since.
