On El Al flights plain-clothes guards are seated anonymously among paying passengers and have special communication buttons in their seats so they can warn the flight deck of any trouble.

If pilots receive a warning signal, they have orders to roll and put the aircraft into a steep dive in an attempt to unbalance anyone standing.

Flight decks are protected by double-locked strengthened doors, which are kept sealed during flights, and pilots and co-pilots carry pistols as a precaution in case the marshals are overpowered.
