And the trade war with Mexico commences...

King Trump plans a 20% import tariff on Mexico.  How foolish. Now Mexico will impose an import tariff on USA imports.

The man is a fool.

Either two things will happen here which means that Mexico still won't pay for the wall.

1. The US still continues to buy the Mexican products but Mexico just adds 20% to the price to cover the tariff.
2. Mexico instead just sells to someone else.

Because the richest, most powerful country in the world has somehow 'suffered' because of free trade?  All that will happen is that other countries - including ours - will erect tariff walls on US goods. How do you think Boeing will continue to sell planes to other countries with a 20% tariff when they can buy Airbus from Europe without them? american cars suddenly 20% more expensive while japanese, korean and Euro cars are now cheaper.

Trump thinks he can act without consequences and will soon learn a harsh lesson.

King Trump plans a 20% import tariff on Mexico.  How foolish. Now Mexico will impose an import tariff on USA imports.

The man is a fool.

Just apply the Schwartz test...

Trump's actions

  1. will have an utter disregard for the truth and an air of a lack of conscience about that fact. Any correlation with the truth will be coincidental.
  2. will be driven entirely by what Trump would perceive as his immediate self interest.
  3. Even when patently false, their repetition over time will betray Trump's inability to ever admit that he is wrong about anything.

And the method in the madness is clear...

Trump is, if nothing else, a master deflector and manipulator of public opinion...

After all...

It doesn't matter what the truth is, he he was elected on the promise of punishing Mexico so he will always be able to claim that he's doing what the American people want him to do. Its therefore in his immediate self interest to rattle the sabre at Mexico...

Also, because of this, he's not even close to having to admit he was wrong...

After all, if he was wrong, then the people were wrong...

Watch Trump damage the economy and ironically (and enjoyably) those most hurt will be his supporters.

Good ol' Grumpy Trumpy. So delusional...

"immediate construction of the border wall will generate revenue from Mexico that will pay for the wall if we decide to go that route.”

Of course, Grumpy Trumpy is too scared to leave his Twitter cocoon and actually meet with Peña Nieto “unless Mexico is going to treat the United States fairly.”

Now Grumpy Trumpy is about to go on dragnet deportation offensive by sitting on his fat ass signing executive orders that will add another 5,000 border patrol agents and tripling the number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Let's not forget his Gestapo police who will round up and arrest any immigrant (and yes, that means illegal Australians) and mandating their incarceration.

Yes, the concentration camps are back! The Trump Administration has been waiting for you.

...

All illegal Australians are welcome.

Life for the illegal Australian under the Trump Administration
...

Get used to life under the fascist Trump Administration policy of uber-American nationalism!!!

It's not just for illegals but the legal working class that will suffer.

...

Take for example, Jared Bernstein of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities or some such bullshit who has it all summed up by telling Bloomberg that:

“Mexico doesn’t pay for the wall, American consumers who shop at places that import, like Walmart and Target, pay for the wall, making it a regressive tax supporting a dumb, wasteful idea.”

Appears Grumpy Trumpy's provocative maneuvers against Mexico are directed at paving the way for the uber-exploitation of Mexico by American corporations, which will enrich themselves at the expense of workers in both countries.

Fascism unfurled. All under the guise of capitalism.

Absolutely. One of my excellent experiences with a home-built hi-performance car is that while it is still more expensive to maintain and repair than regular cars, it is nothing like imported ones. A jaguar XJR is an fabulous car, but you need to have deep pockets to maitain service and repair it. But its $325,000  to buy so I guess if you can afford to buy it...Smiley

I will miss the FPV and HSV range. In terms of value for money, they outshone pretty much all competitors anywhere. As fast as cars three times their price with handling to match. Not quite up to spec on interiors, but thats about it. and vastly cheaper to maintain and the build quality was just as good.

I wonder if a trade war recommences if local manufacturing of vehicles might come back?

if the Mexican produce end up being 20% dearer then guess what???

that puts American farmers back in Business and = more jobs..

and you are far better off having control of your own food, as, who knows what sort of chemicals at the Mexicans are spraying all of their foods... right?

and they are grubby little bastards too....

you know what I'm talking about...

so its a win win for America  Smiley

I will miss the FPV and HSV range

i thought they were going to keep going, just using imported American cars instead of local falcons and commodores as their base models.

Although I could be thinking of some of the independent groups like Walkingshaw

no they arent. Ford have the Mustang and GM are bringing in a mid-sized 4or 6cyl dinky little car.  Both very disappointing choices and no V8s other than the mustang. But it is 2 door.

Kia is bringing in a v6 and v8 of all things.  Feels wrong...

dear dimwit... the difference between american and mexican product is a lot more than 20%.  All it means is that imported goods will now be 20-25% MORE EXPENSIVE while not helping local industry at all. BUT - and its a big one - Mexicos retaliatory 20% tarrif on american goods will make a lot of those imports MORE expensive that from other countries and so americans will lose market share.

In no way is it helpful to americans which of course is why cleverer people than Trump arranged it this way in the first place.
