Would any Australian like to be able to walk into a "drug store" aka the US.. and just buy a gun/hand gun...sometimes I would welcome this freedom.. but most of the time not.

you cant be serious!!! that is the most dumbest thing I have ever seen anyone admit....what are you thinking agnes???....would you be happy to see your son walking out of a  chemist shop carrying a gun.
.

knowing full well any other 18 yr old can do the same... Shocked Shocked Shocked

It has never been that way in Australia cods, even before the ban on guns..nuff said, in Australia there were pretty strict conditions before you could buy a gun..not in the US though. No I did not explain my reasons and now I won't for the most part.. I have used guns..and also like target practice at Gun Clubs.. a lot of women do. I would like to own a cross bow as well...so I could join a club...you will get a very bad knee jumping to all those conclusions.  Wink
Of course I would not like it so teens could go buy a gun and walk out the door... wasn't really a serious proposition..more a right we will never have and I miss being able to pursue that particular sport.. my rifles are gone now. my license expired and the thought Of having to jump through hoops to get it back annoys the heck out of me.

no one jumped to any conclusions agnes...thats what you said.....YOU would WELCOME this  freedom.. meaning THEIR FREEDOM
to buy guns over the counter....

willy nilly by all accounts... Roll Eyes

you like guns.. so does Trump...you have something in common.. Grin Grin

but it is a serious topic.. anything to do with gun ownership is serious as far as I am concerned..

as far as I can make out.. a GUN has only one purpose..

to blow a hole in something...

I cant think of any other reason to have one.. its doesnt matter if its clay or a paper target.. it will smash it to smithereens..

at least one can find a couple of uses for a knife.. other than putting a hole in someone..

I like tigers agnes but I realise it would be dumb for us to own one.

Well said, cods.

You have just destroyed every single "argument" the gun nuts have.

greg I feel you would have a better argument if you didnt insist on calling people names..

you need to try debating a b it more...someone will now come along and call you something not nice and there goes the thread...

the gun lobby always uses farmers as a reason to lighten up the rules...and farmers use rifles..and not mostly to kill anything...

if you wish to use a shooting range you can hire the guns no need to own one and have it in your home.. where it can get stolen..

that Olympic Gun champion Diamond I think his name is....he turned out to be quite a dangerous person...

too many with a gun culture use it for other means...

to think we have a Shooters Political party in NSW...is beyond commonsense to  me..

we should be so happy not every nit wit is running around with guns.....like in America.....

Cattle graziers also use handguns. Try pulling a rifle from a scabbard with a scrub bull bearing down on you. Either on horseback or motorcycle. Or repairing fences, troughs etc. You would probably leave the rifle behind, because your hands are full of tools.

Then of course there is the angle they, the bulls come from. Your upper torso won't twist 180º. Which means firing a rifle could cause the butt to slip. Where the round goes is anybodies guess.

So, if you wish to avoid those negativities, I suggest you switch off reality shows.

Now, in real life, on the streets of any city or town in a locale where firearms are carried as we here carry wallets, you would probably find that people are not prone to argumentative outbursts, but on the other hand people would probably be very congenial.

Now, is that because they are all aware that others are probably carrying firearms?     IMHO...yes.

If you were there would you, knowing that most probably 4 out of every 10 people are carrying a concealed handgun, would you pick an argument with anyone, not knowing for sure if they were armed or not?.........If you are sane, your most definitely wouldn't.

Even if you yourself were carrying a firearm, the last thing you would probably want to do is be forced to use it as another is using theirs against you, for a frivolous, or an avoidable confrontation.

There are assholes everywhere, but as a rule you will probably find that overall "An Armed Society, is a Polite Society".

True.

In this semi-rural area most homes have guns. Consequently home invasions, robberies are almost non existent. The local sheriff encourages the purchase of guns - says it makes his job easier. Of course you need a permit and its desirable to attend a course in how to handle firearms safely.

Gun owners are probably more likely to hurt themselves or someone else accidentally than defending themselves against a criminal. But its their choice to own a gun. You cannot legislate against stupidity - only minimize the risks. But not being able to defend yourself or your family from an attacker or intruder in any way you choose as in Australia is wrong.

What country would try to invade America militarily with its 300 million guns? On the other hand Australia with its fabulous wealth, vast underpopulated area and resources may someday wish that they were more like America.
