With majorities in the legislature, the Republicans thought they had a pretty good chance of having the whole box and dice. Most did not want Trump, as they had any number of blue suited, gun-rights, anti-abortionist, global warming deniers to choose from. But Trump said, "Fine, I'll run as an Independent," and his popularity skyrocketed. It was his "line in the sand." That's when the Republican Party "fouled its trousers." It did not take them long to abandon their dislike of Trump when his chances became evident. So now they have their cake, but they'll have to eat it too. Somehow, they have to spin the eating of feces into that of wedding cake, but that's what politicians do best.
People, who support one party over another, without demanding to see the fine print, have streak of the simpleton in their psychology. Trump addressed issues by allusion, leaving nothing to make predictions on, other than trust. To those I say, "Good luck."
