The transfer of power

Here's another two bobs worth seeing it's too hot to work outside.

I think second term presidents have a duty to hold themselves at arm's length from the campaigns of their potential successors. Isn't that an unwritten convention?
I think Bush 2 did that and was also very friendly and helpful to the incoming president. I don't remember Clinton.
I have read the Eisenhowers were not very nice towards Truman, but there could have been wartime disagreements involved there.

Now, if Obama had held himself aloof from the campaign I think he may have been more respected all round as he departs. I certainly would have respected him if he had spent his time telling the country how great it is to have a system where power is transferred peacefully and amicably. Instead of that he got down and dirty as a Tammany Hall street brawler. He continues to snipe at his successor even as he walks out the door. As it is, it is not unexpected that he is leaving office with half of America having a low opinion of him.

The manner in which he leaves office in no way matches up to the manner in which he assumed it.

That is very much a tradition.

In other regards obama has tried to cause trouble for the US as he leaves .
