Instead of going back to Play School on this, how about you respond with a little intelligence and a little less petulance and ADHD on this?

Leave Play School to the likes of Gregg and John Smith.

Nothing you said is worthy of intelligent reply.

I'm not advocating anything here except for a more realistic view of non-consensual vaginal sex between a man and a woman, and how a priest buggering the rectum of a small boy is infinitely a more atrocious and appalling act from every perspective.

It was Sex Without Consent in which for a very few brief moments her freedom to chose was denied her.

Until recent times this was the common experience of women everywhere due to raiding parties, wars, the Vikings and the Danes, slavery, harems, inter-tribal fighting, mixed jails, initiation rites, and then sharing your wife as an act of hospitality in some societies, etc.

It's only in very recent times that sex-without-permission has been elevated to being a hanging offence.

In fact, I once saw a news item in which a lofty British judge, all dressed up in his finery, told his audience that there can be no such thing as 'rape within marriage' - and that he would dismiss any such charges against a husband brought before him for judgment.

So let's get some perspective here, UnSubRocky.

There are a hell of a lot more 'worse things' that can happen to a woman than that somebody has uninvited sex with the same sex organ as she will use voluntarily for over 50 years of her adult life.

Being caned for 7 years as a captive child in a boarding school is to my reckoning astronomically worse than a brief encounter with a male who uses a woman's vagina in exactly the same way as her lover does.

Perspective, ladies and gentlemen.

Just thought that Herbie's sentiments in full bore repeating.

Don't we all?

12 years on the dole ...

I'd have him back at work so fast his head would spin like Linda Blair's in The Exorcist.

A more powerful read is his then girlfriend's recovery and life's achievements.........one of many links....

Good input Alinta. I'm glad to see you're not balking at the hard ones as some chose to do.

The penalty for rape given by the judge in the Saward case demonstrates very clearly that it is very much a matter of subjective and cultural perspective that determines the degree of severity that is considered appropriate to fit the crime.

It's not a one-size-fits-all consideration.

Adrian Bayley, the rapist who attacked Jill Meagher in Melbourne was swanning around on parole after two previous convictions for rape, which once again demonstrates a leniency on the part of the presiding judges during his earlier trials.

There was no "Shock! Horror! - He deserves decades in jail for those rapes!"

Not a bit of it. There he was, unsupervised and back to his old habits again.

What has the guy's girlfriend's traumatic experience of rape and murder got to do with that guy not getting a job for the last 7 years?

This guy has had things bad. But I would give him about 5 years to recover from the ordeal. Not 12. Even 5 years seems generous, considering I have suffered more post traumatic stress than he will ever encounter.

Have you had your virgin girlfriend raped within earshot while you were tied up and unable to do anything? I think I'd rather be shot.

I gather he and her father were both beaten very badly, as well.  However, I agree.  I believe enduring something on your own, as horrible as it is, is not nearly as difficult as being unable to save someone you love.

Have some compassion - it's a genuine case:

Quote:
he has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder and bipolar disorder, which he believes is a result of the brain injuries he suffered in the attack.

Give me a break!

This snowflake has turned a bad situation into a life-long excuse to avoid carrying his own weight. He's turned his story into a Victimhood Industry money-earner as a professional drama queen.

Countless men have returned from combat situations where they've heard and seen a lot worse than a girlfriend being forced to have involuntary intercourse with some strangers.

I do excuse you. It's 'confronting' isn't it?

Did you also want to vomit while reading all those reports of priests buggering small boys?

No?

I didn't think so.

herbert, i think you are , perhaps, playing devils advocate.
this would indeed be a very traumatic event to go thru.

my daughter was pinned under a car and badly injured and she passed out from being unable to breath and she spent several weeks in hospital. after this , she became quite PTSD and i had to think about this situation.

My feeling is that the current psychologist treatment is harmful and also that sitting and dwelling on something is harmful.

what we think about or talk about creates synaptic highways in our brain.
if you want to end up fearful, then just replay that old record over and over and over and you will build a highway in your brain that just moves all your thoughts down it. and you will have a dirt road to confidence.

this is why i say dont think self pitying thoughts and dont go to counsellors and talk about the "bad stuff" over and over as you are just putting more lanes on your highway to unhappiness.

Process orientation is the answer.

skiing is an example of process orientation.

there is not point to skiing , you just go up a hill and back down, but the "process" allows "focus" and this builds "confidence"" and gets rid of "cortisol and adrenaline".

really, the best thing this guy could have done is get a job that he enjoyed where he was focusing on that and just moved on.

But people do so love their pain (or they love building those highways). and the victimhood industry love being paid to pour the concrete that allows the victim to build more and more lanes to unhappiness.

truly they are all  crazy to do this and it just wrecks lives
