Victoria has had black outs too recently. One of them a couple of months ago resulted in thousands of homes being without power for 3 days.

This doesn't get reported in the conservative media because Victoria uses coal fired power stations,

The average max temperatures for Rockhampton during the December month was 35 degrees. It varied little over the month. Night time temperatures were not tolerable for sleep, irrespective of how high you had your ceiling fans. I don't know how I managed to get through my childhood without having the fans or the airconditioning we have today. I must have not known how good things would get as an adult.

Tough it out, South Australia. You are too conditioned to the cold weather to know how to handle the heat.

(humming chorus in background)...... today..... yesterday's news became fish wrapping...... today... was the day before tomorrow and the day after yesterday....... but we all move on...... after all.. we always knew that time was malleable......... take for instance how time slows when you are in a boring job........ how it speeds up when you are in good company ....... how a minute under fire is an Eternity ..... how waiting for the ambulance is always longer than the movement of the hands on the clock suggests ... oh, yes.. we all know Father Time.... and his devious ways...... oops - time for another beer.....(humming chorus fades) ....

We know about the heat Rocky..we have temps of like 40+ as a matter of course in summer.. and one summer here we had temps of 50 ish for 11 days straight- but that was years ago and that high was not so typical, but 45+ is..old people dropping dead in that heat which also included Adelaide.. so yes we know about heat and we are in no way soft..but the erratic power supply drives me crazy ..I dont want to put up with crap anymore.. and we shouldn't have too..lets hope they have their act together next summer..too late for this one..

Sure. You had 50ish temps some time ago for 11 days straight. But I would agree with you about power outages making it difficult for the elderly. Solution being to use solar panels on housing, so that there are no brownouts or black outs. In the last 10 years of noticing people using solar power, I have not seen a black out related to overconsumption of power usage. It has been a real saviour for times when the heat gets above 35 for weeks on end. Perhaps because the bulk of SA's population is in Adelaide, you don't have so much in reliable power supply.

I think for myself for now..will have to organise some kind of back up supply..because I dont see this being solved in the near future..blackouts here have lasted 2- 3 days each time ( whereas previously 1-4 hours tops)..and usually so hot its not bearable..and I agree with you those in regional areas always bear the brunt of poor services..wether it be power/doctors/specialists etc.. same old story always.

People are worried about the electricity supply with the hot weather up here. Today, we had around 40-degree temperatures and incoming thunderstorm that gave us no more than 4mm of light rain. Right now, I'm typing on my computer with the air conditioning blaring its 30-year-old motor. I'm not looking forward to my next power bill.

The amount of solar panels on roofs in town should have compensated for any need to worry about brownouts. If I could have solar panels installed on my roof for free, I would run the air conditioning non-stop. Even with windows open.

Power networks are not to blame for extreme weather conditions, blame climate change and the extremities it brings. SA is in the front line, exposed to the southern ocean, not far from the Antarctica and surrounded by desert, 40 plus every where here today and more tomorrow, look out!

None of these storms are even remotely unprecedented. We have had worse, far worse before. We have just now got a power system that isnt handling these things as well as they should because we close down coal and gas fired plants and then have to import power from interstate from... coal and gas-fired plants.

idiocy.

Right.

Do you even know where your nearest coal power station is, and what it looks like sitting there behind a few bushes?
