Former Essendon player and coach James Hird has reportedly been taken to hospital in a major health scare.

Hird is said to have been taken to Cabrini Hospital last night before being transferred elsewhere.

Other news links say it was a deliberate poison overdose.

I dunno whether to feel sorry or otherwise for this bloke.  I had him as the sole passenger in the cab some years ago, after he retired from playing.

He was constantly on the mobile and the discussion seemed all high flying business deals going on in which he was the centre of success.

Pretty rude of him actually.

Perhaps he was only pretending to be on the phone so he didn't have to talk to you.

That's the $M64 question cods.  Did he know that the supplement stuff was happening and players were being duped.

We'll never know, methinks, but this bloke has gone from the penthouse to the shithouse in a very short few years.  I reckon he is in serious financial doo doo, (hence the overdose) and those blokes he was so richly talking to in my Cab have abandoned him to the wolves.

As I said, I dunno whether to feel sorry for him or not.

Hird was 100% responsible for what happened to those players and that the way it dragged out for years..

an absolute disgrace...  Angry

he trashed and ended careers of some very good players

the right thing to do would have been to put their hands up and pleaded guilty from day dot...

take your punishment and get on with life...

take some GOD Damned RESPONSIBILITY ffs.. Angry

Hird received 1 million dollars for sitting out a season with all expenses paid to go study overseas... etc etc etc..

if he's having financial difficulties then he's the world biggest dickhead...

he has brought everything onto himself and still cries "poor poor pitiful me" boo hoo... Cry

they are saying on the telly this morning that its an expected OD...

still doing drugs...?

Quote:
JAMES Hird is being treated for a drug overdose as concerned friends fear for his wellbeing.

The controversial former Essendon coach was taken to Cabrini hospital after an ambulance was called to his Toorak home late on Wednesday night to treat him for a suspected drug overdose.

Hird’s condition is still unknown, however the Herald Sun understands he was transferred from Cabrini’s on Wednesday afternoon to a specialist mental health centre where he is still receiving care.

Sources close to Hird raised fears about the former star’s welfare in recent weeks.

While Hird has maintained a strong persona throughout his three-year fight over the Essendon doping scandal, concerned friends today feared he may have been putting on a brave face.

One former Essendon colleague expressed private concerns about Hird’s welfare in the weeks leading up to Christmas and was keeping in regular contact with him, worried about his mental state.

Hird’s wife Tania Hird has returned to her home after leaving for a couple of hours on Thursday afternoon.

She didn’t say anything to waiting media as she went inside her home about 7.45pm. She arrived alone and without James Hird.

Cabrini Health has refused to confirm whether the controversial former Essendon coach was treated due to patient confidentiality.

“We are unable to provide information on any individual patient. The safety, wellbeing and privacy of all our patients is of utmost importance at Cabrini,” hospital spokeswoman Christine Elmer said.

Health sources confirmed Hird’s treatment related to a suspected drug overdose, but refused to speculate on events leading up to the health scare.

The former champion has been criticised in some quarters for failing to accept responsibility for his role in the Bombers’ supplements fiasco.

noone knows because none of us were there....all I know is ... he would not have been alone....and those at the top always manage to be invisible when it comes to BAD NEWS....and I do not believe anyone inthat position would act alone......

my heart goes out to him.. the same with cousins...they have left them to get on with something they received thanks to football and probably their clubs culture.......turning a blindeye should also be seen as a crime..

all I kn ow is I am so glad none of my grandsons have shown any skills in this sport...we talk all high and mighty about kids dying from taking drugs at rock concerts.......

yet its nothing compared to the ruined lives of sports stars in particular football stars... Angry Angry

I think he is a good example of how easy it is to fall off the narrow road to success when you dont stick to core principles.

ALWAYS, there is the EASY way to do something and the RIGHT way to do something.

the easy way to try to improve is to take some sort of pill.
the right way to try to improve is to train hard, hit the gym, learn about nutrition, become mentally resilient.

Injecting things is simply the wrong way.

This is no different to a woman who drinks booze and gets puffy skin and then does botox
This is no different to people who line up to try to win lotto rather then grind it out in their business.
This is no different to people who try to pump their ego with a flash car rather then get legitimate self esteem by "becoming" a successful businessperson, father, son, mentor or community member.

Always remember, success is difficult to attain and has to be earnt and re earnt.
Always remember that mediocrity is the norm, that failure is the norm.

An overdose (and this is not a dig at James) is a mental association with the cry-baby mentality.
Dont go there. Learning to think positive thoughts when the going gets tough (and it will always get tough) is what allows you to grow.
let me say that again.
When sh*t happens , we can take a lesson from the sh*t and go into growth or we can identify with the sh*t and become a victim and go into pain. It is entirely your choice.
i totally understand self pity. But you must understand that it cannot and will not help you move forward and it is an emotion that you must ruthlessly and aggressively stomp out

You are a taxi driver and nothing else. You are not his friend or confidante or even his personal driver. you are JUST a taxi driver.
