And the usual idiocy continues. karnal refused to submit an entry last time. And there is no way I (or anyone else) would want to put their efforts in front of a imbecile like fake-lawyer.

Come back when 1) you have submitted your entry from last time and 2) when you learn the right way to run a competition.

no offense to you Longy but Aussie is a very fair person... regardless of what you think of him.

Wouldn't it be easier to 'judge' if everyone had the same subject?

agree..

The rules are a bit strange..for instance a lot of people will vote based on their personal like/dislikes of a particular poster.. unless they are submitted anon.

You dont have to have votes because as you said, the results would be meaningless. JS would vote for a serial killer over a JK Rowling that votes Liberal.

it is more about getting a broad topic and inviting all and sundry to submit an essay or article of significant length and consideration. it can be quite interesting as you find people who post poorly, but write well. The problem is getting past the idiocy that infects so much of what goes on around here. For instance, asking for a fictional story supporting Paedophilia as per Karnal's idea. Both disgusting and borderline criminal.

I dont think you would find many people willing to agree with you. Seriously, you would probably find the majority would disagree with you.

And it needs to be in the General Forum and not in the sub-forums were single members can (and do) wreak havoc and bias.

What about writing a speech? Make up a fictional situation and write a speech to suit. It could be a election victory speech, a speech to a special interest group or a public speech to a crowd.

There have been some fantastic speakers like Churchill, JFK, Martin Luther King etc.  Perhaps someone here has similar latent talent?

If Karnal chose a support of peadophelia for your subject I suspect that would be because of a long game in order for Karnal and others, John Smith/Peccerhead/Aussie et al, to recycle those arguments divorced from this 'competition' in future debates  and accuse you of supporting peadophelia.

Hell Peccerhead is already over the forum accusing anyone who laughed at him for losing his bet...and remaining despite losing biggly,  as supporting an accused child abuser.

As for have it happening in Aussies playground, that should be grounds for declining from the get go.

Absolutely. it is quite entertaining watching the usual suspects playing their usual games. Karnal is utterly incapable of a serious post and so I have no idea if he could write seriously since he has never yet done so. And no one in their right mind would put Aussie in charge of anything. He reeks envy and bitterness all wrapped up in a nice, tight bundle of ignorance.

I dont think being anon makes much difference. I am happy for people to post their offerings under their own name. Most of the responses will be very predictable but there a few posters here who can jettison their partisan positions long enough to be fair and reasonable.

Personally, I think John Howard was our best-ever PM, but he wrote his own speeches and he was... well, terrible. I often wished I could write his speeches for him. It would be hard to do worse.

As an aside, for Gregg to accuse others for being cowards for not taking up his bet, easy enough for him to do when he never intended to fulfil his commitment.

Happily he was taken up on his bet...and yet he remains.

Moreover he didn't need to be taken up on his bet...and yet he remains, the unflushable turd, a liar and whose word means nothing.

Gregg is a liar.

His/her/its major challenge would be to A) actually do it and B) be serious.  I think dsmithy70 and dna could right well and I suspect peccahead could as well and I would love to critique him using the same level of pedantry his dishes out.  Maybe he could right a 1200 word article on the difference between illegal and unlawful? Crocodile might do well although if the topic were anything by economics and grpahs were not permitted, it might be a big challenge!  And of course green_snot.  A) he cant count to 1200 (or 12) and he couldnt write a word on the actual topic (see his threads for proof).  Andrei should be asked to write on 'Why i love the Democrats'

Well - he perhaps left in spirit... a token forever going away.... and maybe that was a non-core promise anyway....
