When Kennedy said well go to the moon, two things no three:
1 the US was not in need of a stimulus through a big program like it is now
2 I don't believe they envisaged what technological innovation they would need to come up with OR what the long term spin offs would be
3 lurking behind it all was the rocket & missile development they knew they needed to stay ahead of the soviets

After talking with the President-elect, Bill Gates said he expects him to carry the US through new stages of innovation just like Kennedy did with the space program in the 1960s.
He said he believes the new administration will bring new ideas in areas like education, science & energy through greatly reduced regulation.

He has to make it up.

So far he's shaping up to be an amalgam of FDR, JFK and Nixon (Nixon the bad that is... Not Nixon the foreign affairs President).

Or in other words...

Left, left, right...

Here is the text of the video interview. Nowhere, does Gates actually condone Trump. He was very diplomatic, focusing what he hopes for in the new administration. ("has an opportunity") The oblique reference to Kennedy is not as if he is saying Trump is like Kennedy. He is doing a comparison of situation where the country became enthused. The media has turned Kennedy into a hero because of Cuba not the Space programme. No one seems to remember that it was Kennedy who first justified the invasion of Vietnam, a policy that ultimately got killed 50,000 Americans and 521 Australians.

Quote:

President-elect Donald Trump has an opportunity to establish "American leadership through innovation," Bill Gates told CNBC on Tuesday.

"A lot of his message has been about ... where he sees things not as good as he'd like," the billionaire Microsoft co-founder said on "Squawk Box."

"But in the same way President Kennedy talked about the space mission and got the country behind that," Gates continued, "I think whether it's education or stopping epidemics ... [or] in this energy space, there can be a very upbeat message that [Trump's] administration [is] going to organize things, get rid of regulatory barriers, and have American leadership through innovation."

Gates said he recently spoke on the phone with Trump, and discussed the power of innovation. "Of course, my whole career has been along those lines. And he was interested in listening to that. And I'm sure there will be further conversation."

Gates said it was the first time he had spoken with Trump, though he said they have mutual friends.

Well yes, but Bogie has a different transcript.
