India is in Asia, Gordon.
Indians are Asian.
Yes Greggey, we all know that but in Australia colloquially Chinese,Viet,Korean,Thai etc are referred to as Asians.
Yes.
So are Indians.
Why? Because India is in Asia.
Moreover, the culprits in the OP will mainly be white Australians/Poms/Irishmen - not Indians.
That's how English people refer to them.
That's how
everybody refers to them.
Indians are Asian.
Just admit you made a mistake, and move on.
Here's a good explanation or you.
In the UK we have substantial populations of Pakistanis, Bangladeshis
and Sri Lankans who come from the Indian subcontinent: too many of them
would be offended by being lumped together under the general tem
'Indians'. The majority of Indians are Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists; the
majority of Pakistanis and Bangladeshis are Moslem, so they tend to feel
their cultural differences quite strongly.
In contrast, although we have a significant Chinese population, there
are comparatively few Japanese, Koreans or Indonesians, so identifying
them all by a single generic term never happened.
