Hmm ^^^ I was here in the USA in 2007 when the housing bubble burst and in 2008 when the bottom fell out. Were you? I am still here. And employed. There is no need to provide economic data because the health of the economy is obvious to everyone except you. But I will make an exception for you:

You aren't the mob and the mob rules?

Why were you there?

So what do you think Trump is going to do? He cant stop them leaving and if he puts on tariffs other countries will retaliate the same.  You seem to live in the world of delusion that Trumpites live in that the President can do what he wants and without repercussions. You are going to have a very disappointing and embarrassing 4 years as you watch him achieve nothing other than economic turmoil and probably recession.

Quote:
........................Mr. Trump will be hard-pressed to alter the economic forces that have hammered the Rust Belt for decades, but forcing Carrier and its parent company, United Technologies, to reverse course is a powerful tactical strike that will rally his base even before he takes office.

In exchange for keeping the factory running in Indianapolis, Mr. Trump and Mr. Pence are expected to reiterate their campaign pledges to be friendlier to business by easing regulations and overhauling the corporate tax code. .........

This is a good result for the US

But how long will it last? Clearly Carrier is simply delaying its move in the expectation that Trump will deliver on his tax-cut proposals. And when he fails to do so, Carrier will move then.

And given that Trump wants to literally disband the Environmental Protection Agency, be very fearful of what 'less regulation' might mean. Dumping toxic waste without oversight is certainly cheaper. Less stringent emission standards on cars will also make them cheaper. But do you really want that?

is longy concerned about emission standards all of a sudden?

I know, Death. I'm surprised too.

Alas, Longy, you seem to live in the world of delusion that Sprint will understand any of your post.

Here is what Trump delivered for the US:

"In exchange for tax breaks that will cost the state of Indiana $700,000 a year for an unspecified number of years, Carrier will keep 850 manufacturing jobs in the state, along with 300 headquarters and engineering jobs that slated to move to North Carolina. About 1,300 jobs will still relocate to the glorious workers’ paradise of Mexico."

And I still give Trump credit for an amazing PR stunt. The man is truly a Master Persuader.

Trump's main purpose is to shift the Overton Window. He has already achieved this to a certain degree. If he can keep shifting it then he has exceeded all expectations.

Lol, like seriously: is that even a comment!

It's an insight that many overlook. He's already made it acceptable to criticise many pet leftard topics. A simple example was Dutton coming out the other day stating the importation of Lebanese was a mistake. He wouldn't have said this pre Trump. And what about Thwaites taking Labor MP Butler to court? Would he have bothered pre Trump? I doubt it. Moreover, the entire 'identity politics' movement is being questioned.

The article your quote is from, and the several articles it is linked to, doesn't rely on anything other than Legum's word and some supposed source, which doesn't elaborate either.

Are you saying there is no massive tax break? Are you saying that the number of jobs moving to Mexico is greater or lesser than what was reported?

I am saying I don't trust Legum. He has about a dozen or so anti-Trump articles. He's not balanced enough to be trusted.

Boy howdy! Trump did nothing more than make another lame publicity stunt made possible by a bribe paid to Carrier. Carrier is fully committed to offshoring its production and will do so. ALL of the jobs "saved" will be gone within 2 years.

You gullible Trumptard hippies. Keep on posting your crap.

Well, they can start selling into Cuba, then.

The point is not that jobs will never be lost in the US. The point is that you cannot sacrifice US jobs, move offshore and then sell back tariff free.

Trump is not that different to Sanders on this:

There are many corporations who have turned their backs on the American worker, who have said, if I can make another nickel in profit by going to China and shutting down in the United States of America, that's what I will do. I will do my best to transform our trade policy and take on these corporations who want to invest in low-income countries around the world rather than in the United States of America.

Priority of trade deals should be helping American workers
Bernie Sanders believes that the top priority of any trade deal should be to help American workers. Unfortunately, as Bernie has warned year after year, American trade policy over the last 30 years has done just the opposite. Multinational corporations- who have helped to write most of these trade deals--have benefited greatly while millions of American jobs have been shipped overseas. American trade policy should place the needs of American workers and small businesses first.

http://www.ontheissues.org/2016/Bernie_Sanders_Free_Trade.htm

If Bernie says it -good. If Trump says it - bad.

That's how stupid you are.
