Trump era: unprecedented corrupt governance
Nov 22nd, 2016 at 3:56pm

The warnings are flying thick and fast including that Trump has acted corruptly before even taking office by virtue of hosting foreign dignitaries at Trump Hotel in Washington.

KRUGMAN: Trump is going to bring about 'an era of corrupt governance unprecedented in US history'

Paul Krugman, the Nobel-winning economist and New York Times columnist, once again took to Twitter on Monday to express his discontent with the future Donald Trump administration.

In a series of tweets, Krugman decried the possibility of corruption within the Trump administration, particularly in regard to Trump's massive proposed infrastructure plan and foreign policy.

"We're about to enter, or may already have entered, an era of corrupt governance unprecedented in US history," Krugman tweeted on Monday.

Krugman suggested he believes that the public-private co-investment strategy of Trump's proposed $550 billion infrastructure package would allow the president-elect to give favorable contracts to associates or even his own companies. Krugman wrote that Trump's family could take $10 billion "skimmed off the top" without anyone noticing.

"Expect to see lots of privatization and a general shift from transparent to murky so that favors can be traded," Krugman wrote.

Trump has already prompted questions about his business dealings and family as he transitions into the presidency. Presidents typically put their private business interests in a blind trust during their terms. Trump has said that his business interests would be shifted to his children.

Yet Ivanka Trump sat in on a meeting last week with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, which critics have said is a conflict of interest.

Additionally, Krugman said the president-elect's foreign policy would be tilted toward authoritarian governments that could trade favors with Trump.

"And think about the pro-tyrant bias of foreign policy," Krugman wrote.

"Democratic regimes — say, in Europe — are by their own rules unable to offer de-facto personal bribes to the US president," he continued. "Putin's Russia or, for that matter, Xi's China, will be fine with sending huge business to the profiteer-in-chief. And that will cause a tilt of US policy toward authoritarian regimes."

Krugman has taken to Twitter frequently since Trump was elected to express concerns over various parts of a Trump presidency.

Krugman concluded Monday's tirade by telling people to "stay alert."

.........Impeachment proceedings have been initiated against several presidents of the United States. Andrew Johnson and Bill Clinton are the only two presidents to have been successfully impeached by the House of Representatives, and both were later acquitted by the Senate. The impeachment process of Richard Nixon was technically unsuccessful, as Nixon resigned his office before the vote of the full House for impeachment, but successful in the broader sense of leading to Nixon's departure. To date, no U.S. President has been removed from office by impeachment and conviction...........

Two (2) Presidents have been successfully Impeached.......but neither were removed from office.

Being that both the United States Senate, & the United States House of Representatives are in the firm grip of the Republicans, you'd probably find a mountain of hens teeth, before you'd ever see the soon to be President Trump impeached, much less removed from office, unless found guilty of high treason & also burning the American flag on the 4th of July!  Grin Grin Grin

What are the steps of Presidential impeachment?

Source:

       Quote:
The impeachment process begins with the House of Representatives investigating whether there are sufficient grounds to impeach the president; if it determines that there are, an impeachment trial takes place within the Senate. There are no instances of an American President being forced out of office due to impeachment, and only four instances in which there was legitimate debate in Congress about potentially impeaching a president, as of 2015......

........Initially, the House Judiciary Committee chooses whether to pursue impeachment, followed by the Judiciary Committee initiating a formal inquest into the subject of impeachment. Depending on the outcome of the inquiry, the Judiciary Committee sends a resolution to the House either indicating that impeachment is warranted and supports the conclusion with the Articles of Impeachment, or that there is insufficient reasoning to support impeachment.

After debate, the Full House votes on each Article of Impeachment. If a simple majority approves of any one of the Articles, the President is officially impeached. However, this is merely a way of charging the President with a crime; a trial still takes place in the U.S. Senate, and the President is represented by lawyers. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court serves as prosecutor and the 100 Senators act as jurors.

After a trial, the Senate meets privately to decide upon a verdict.
A 2/3 vote
results in a conviction. Next, the Senate decides whether to remove the President from office, and may also vote on whether the President can hold any public office in the future.
