True Lies, Trump and the art of the con
Nov 4th, 2016 at 7:43am

There's not much sadder than desperate townspeople looking for quick fixes to chronic problems.

And when the situation is grim (usually due to many disparate causes manifesting together) they are most likely to be exploited by the cynical, the conman, the pathological or the just plain evil.

And it sure is easy to 'bestow the purple' on the slick out-of-towner in an Armani suit dishing out his snake oil that he claims will cure what ails the town.

To the townsfolk of West Virginia, I'd say that you'll know you're being lied to when you're hearing glib and two-dimensional answers to your serious and multi-dimensional problems from a man who has never known poverty and despises those who are poor. This kind of man is not the 'working class hero' who will 'turn things around'... He is not genetically capable of empathising with those whom he would tag as 'Losers'... Because that is all the underprivileged are to him. He views your plight as synonymous with the worst aspects of Calvinistic drivel... That somehow it's all your fault anyway... Not because he's religious but because he's an overprivileged failure and a cynical conman who'd rather slit his wrists than identify with those truly in need.

"When you look at West Virginia and coal mining, it's a traditionally white community, it's a traditionally lesser educated state and Trump is promising to take things back to the good old days and I think that's what everyone wants here,"

His philosophy has its roots and has since devolved from the 'Existentialism 4 Idiots' series.

Not that there's much difference to the Trump brand (even if its more like 'Calvinistic Existentialism 4 Idiots')

How do you know what he thinks? Ever been to West Virginia?
You have no idea - so cut the bs. Do some research on him.
MSM is in the pocket of the Clintons (fact) so do some independent work and think for yourself.

Don't even try to tell me you know him... Your own people tell us all what he's really like... And it ain't pretty for a reason...

Mountain Mamma?

Do you really think it's not possible for an Australian to empathise with the down-on-their-luck of West Virginia from Australia?

Yeah, yeah... Of course...

Is the Republican Party 'in the pocket of the Clintons'?

"Independent work"... "Think for yourself"... These are the memes of the stupid...

It's worth giving Trump a chance and see whether he means what he says- rather than give Hillarty a go when you know she doesn't mean what she says.

She has been in politics for 30 years an hasn't done any of the things she is now promising.

he at least hasn't been in politics and just might do what he says- after all he i not owned by the party machine, the donors, the political class, the mainstream media - all the people who are desperate to maintain their own status an so are moving heaven and earth to deny Americans a say in their own lives.

This election is a choice between more of the political insiders and their rent-seekers or a go for the outsiders, no matter how gauche an unpolished they may be. The slick, polished, impeccably PC insider experts have screwed up the Western working class and middle class so now they want anyone but another goddam 'experienced insider'.

That's Trump, Sanders, Hanson, Farage, Wilders, etc, etc.

Yes, he said it about Bush too. I remember when we were going to bring freedom and democracy to the Middle East. The old boy loved it. We were fools for merely questioning it.

The poor old boy hasn't got much left. Still, we can't say he didn't try. He gave it a go.

Thank God everyone's stopped listening. Intelligence and integrity, innnit.

You are all being ridiculous.  The American Constitution is not something anyone can change 'left to his own devices".

You are all deluded, you are all suffering from the usual derangement syndrome.

Too much Granuiad reading, I suspect.

Well, he would have been re-elected with a greater majority than Turnbull was, that's for sure.

You are all being ridiculous.  The American Constitution is not something anyone can change 'left to his own devices".

You are all deluded, you are all suffering from the usual derangement syndrome.

Too much Granuiad reading, I suspect.

Who said anything about 'changing the constitution'?

Johnson escalated a minor conflict in southeast Asia without 'changing the constitution'... Nixon (with the collusion of his effective 'co-President') had Cambodia bombed without 'changing the constitution'... Bush II initiated wars in Iraq and Afghanistan without 'changing the constitution'...

Americans love war... They prove it with their enduring contempt for Carter - one of the very few US Presidents who went out of his way to not provoke a war or embroil the US in one.

Trump suffers from narcissistic delusions... And he has indicated he'd get tough and go to war (albeit expressing it in the way a 15-year-old fantasises about getting even with the local 'badass')... Only this is a man with only his infantile fantasies to inform him... No experience... No pragmatism to restrain his damaged personality...

Just a dangerous, narcissistic man-child given the power to cause maximum damage to anyone who assaults his ego... And... Well we all know what American males with severe personality disorders can do with firepower when they feel like they're 'Falling Down'.
