In Dutch cookies there are speculaas, spiced cookies with almond, sprits, zandkoekjes and more. Also buttercake, gingercake (gemberkoek) etc.

Koek, koekjes, cookies, is one Dutch word that made it into the English language.

For goodness sake, what is in “supermarkets” is not the be all and end all of food! Most real food is not found in supermarkets!

i find them boring to be honest.....and I agree get real food when you can.. trouble is its all getting more and more expensive...lucky me I cook for one.. I am so glad I dont have a heap of kids to fill up anymore.

home cooking is definitely a dying art.

When both parents work, hard to keep real homecooking going. I have a spare meat mincing machine that I can’t give away to family or friends “no time” so buy some yucky mince from the supermarket. Yuck.

I make my own tomato sauce, even grow some of the tomatoes myself and I know what goes into it: tomato and citric acid, nothing else.

Of course not, but to be fair, Aldi has done a lot to put different European foods before the Australian public, especially with their various regional "weeks".

Know the enemies of a civil society by their public behaviour, by their fraudulent claim to be liberal-progressive, by their propensity to lie and, above all, by their attachment to authoritarianism.

that is very commendable monk.... and one day it may come back .. home cooking I mean....

but if you think about all the old crafts most are disappearing....or most certainly becoming endangered... sadly  crochet knitting weaving all under a huge cloud..even sewing.. who would make childrens clothes when you can buy a t/shirt for $3 at Big W....

in the mean time all those skills die a natural death lack of use...they are far too busy on their iPads and mobs today....they just dont have the time or energy all too hard..

I do hope you are passing on all your skills monk..

Well, I talk about them and answer questions if I can or direct questioners to where an answer could be found.

Now I will be learning to make cider including tasting and blending. Can’t wait!

Pasta made at home from eggs laid by your own chooks simply cannot be beat.
