I dont have a really sweet tooth.. I am more of a chippee fiend to be honest... but I have to admit I prefer the home cooked stuff to what we buy...but I usually make for others like rhubarb and apple crumble.. have a nice recipe for that.. and cheescake of course have a son who always orders one of those...sticky date...have a grandoson who will not eat fruit in any shape or form.. so have to make something he will eat ... everything low cal of course...lolol..I make Chirstmas pud every year as well..and usually mince pies depends on the mood..

all fat and not too healthy..when I think of the things my mum used to make and I never got the recipes for.. arhhhhhhhhhhh mum made a nice baked rice pud... havent been able to make one like ever....it didnt have eggs in it like they do now...and funny thing I dont recall her having a recipe book either. of course I was here when she died so I had no access to anything..

my son in law is of Portuguese extract and he says theres only one bloke who can make them like the real thing. and hes in Sydney.. hes tried them all.. I dont like custard so I wouldnt know but I did make them once they looked ok but sil said nup..... rice pud was a great filler upper in my childhood havent had it in years....my grandson loves the tinned variety....oh god that will go down well...lol

have to admit prefer fried rice.

Please do. I adore a good Portugese tart. They have a Zouki Cafe at the RNSH and every time I have to go there I get a Portugese tart and a box of their Nut Bites.

you know what suprised me going to Denmark Copenhagen to be exact... Danish pastries the real thing are nothing like what I have had here or in England...weird... in fact I wouldnt go out of my way to buy the real thing...they were kind of dry no fresh cream...their bread is yummy though and so much variety.....and they still have the little bakeries and coffee shops of old.. not chain stuff like we have...

In Dutch cookies there are speculaas, spiced cookies with almond, sprits, zandkoekjes and more. Also buttercake, gingercake (gemberkoek) etc.

Koek, koekjes, cookies, is one Dutch word that made it into the English language.

For goodness sake, what is in “supermarkets” is not the be all and end all of food! Most real food is not found in supermarkets!
